There might be some crossover between The Boys and its spinoff series, Gen V, but only up to a certain point. Familiar characters may be popping up in both shows, but having a Gen V character joining The Seven would be taking things too far.
The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke commented on the crossover level between the two shows in a new interview with TVLine. Because of the way Gen V concluded its first season, there had been fan speculation that one of the show’s Supes would join The Seven in the fourth season of The Boys. Instead, new characters like Firecracker and Sister Sage were introduced. Kripke explained how this was done to keep The Boys and Gen V a bit further apart, as he wants to ensure that each series is able to stand on its own without any requirement from the viewer to watch them both.
“To me, that starts to become like such a crossover and so major to the story that it sort of states that people need to watch Gen V to understand who that character was,” Kripke said. “I want to try to avoid that, if I can, of making the watching of both shows start to feel like homework. If you want to watch Gen V, great! If you don’t want to watch it, great. To me, making a main character of that show become a main character on this show feels like maybe a step too far.”
“To me, making a main character of that show become a main character on this show feels like maybe a step too far.”
Kripke’s comments are reminiscent of another recent interview with Variety, where the creative explained, “I like the idea that there’s strands and Easter eggs that kind of pop back and forth, but full team up — no. I live in total fear of this notion that you have to watch both of them to understand the other one.”
The Boys Will End With Season 5 on Prime Video
There will be one more season of The Boys. It was announced that the show was renewed for Season 5, but that will also serve as the final season for the show. Meanwhile, Gen V is continuing on with a second season in the works, and if it continues to find its own success, it could also be able to make it to five seasons, or potentially even longer.
The Boys and Gen V are streaming on Prime Video.
