X-Men fans know, all too well, that Jean Grey’s story in Marvel comics doesn’t generally end well. In the famous 1980 “Dark Phoenix” comic book storyline, Jean Grey’s telepathic and telekinetic powers become sublimated into the wicked power of the Phoenix, transforming a beloved super-heroine into a villain. To date, we’ve had two beloved actresses play Jean Grey in live-action, Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner. But now, a third Jean is rumored to be entering the danger room.
According to Hollywood tipster Jeff Sneider, Sadie Sink is the “frontrunner” to play a new version of Jean Grey. This will be the first time Jean Grey has been introduced into the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe and the rumor suggests that certain members of the X-Men could appear in upcoming Marvel movies very soon, even before a proper X-Men movie reboot has started filming. As Sneider puts it: “Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ movie doesn’t have a director yet, but could some members of the team be introduced prior to that?”
The idea is that some X-Men will appear in Avengers: Doomsday in 2026, a film that will somehow justify Robert Downey Jr. playing the evil Victor Von Doom, a classic nemesis from Fantastic Four comics and other Marvel titles. Having a massive gathering of new, and newly rebooted Marvel characters in Doomsday makes a certain amount of sense. Plus, Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed this year, that fans will see “some X-Men players that you might recognize” in the next few MCU movies.
In terms of cast, Sadie Sink is somewhat perfect to play a new, younger version of Jean Grey. While there’s never been a bad Jean Grey (Famke Janssen and Sophie Turner are both awesome), casting Sink after her turn in Stranger Things makes a certain amount of sense. if some kind of inter-dimensional multiverse action brings Dr. Doom and the X-Men to the MCU, Sadie Sink, at least, has a little experience with that kind of thing. If we’re lucky, this rumor will be 100 percent real, and Sadie Sink will be controlling everyone’s minds in two years time.
