Netflix’s popular romantic drama Virgin River is the perfect choice for fans who enjoy longevity since season 6 just dropped on the streaming site, and season 7 is already confirmed. Based on the eponymous book series by Robyn Carr, Virgin River follows a nurse named Melinda “Mel” Monroe as she finds a home in the small town of Virgin River, California.

Virgin River season 5 set up many storylines to look forward to in season 6. The main event is, of course, the wedding between Mel and Jack, but that won’t be Mel’s only focus. At the end of Virgin River season 5 part 2, Mel meets her birth father, who she hopes to get to know. The show will also likely lean into the past between Mel’s mother and father, since the Virgin River prequel will focus on Everett and Sara’s relationship.

Preacher will face the fallout from his decision to dispose of Wes’ body in Virgin River season 2, since they find the cop’s body at the end of season 5.

The show will also continue the story of Lizzie’s pregnancy, showing her relationship with Denny as they prepare to be parents. Lark is also plotting something with Jimmy based on their phone call in the Christmas episode. Finally, Preacher will face the fallout from his decision to dispose of Wes’ body in Virgin River season 2, since they find the cop’s body at the end of season 5.

Virgin River Has Already Been Renewed For Season 7

Netflix Renewed Virgin River For Season 7 Before Season 6 Released

In an unusual move, Netflix renewed Virgin River for season 7 before season 6 debuted for audiences. Typically, streaming sites wait to renew a show until they see how it performs, relying on data like streaming hours to make that decision. Still, Netflix continuing the show for Virgin River season 7 makes sense, given how popular the show is.

Virgin River developed a large fanbase for many of the same reasons Gilmore Girls and Ginny & Georgia are popular. The shows have likable characters, a beautiful small-town setting, and excellent writing. Virgin River also touches on serious issues without feeling heavy-handed, and its slow pace gives even the most dramatic moments a cozy ambiance.

Like Stars Hollow being the true star of Gilmore Girls, the town of Virgin River, California, is also the star of the Netflix show, creating a sense of community in which the viewer is welcome. Ultimately, Virgin River has the potential to continue for years to come as long as it doesn’t lose the elements that make it special.
