Sarah’s pregnancy makes Wheezie’s return in Outer Banks Season 5 all the more important

While she was initially a significant player in the Pogues vs. Kooks story of Outer Banks, the series has essentially phased out Wheezie Cameron (Julia Antonelli) over the past two seasons. When the series began, the main focus was on the Pogues and the Cameron family, with the love story between “Kook Princess” Sarah Cameron and Pogue John B changing the entire dynamic of the OBX. As Sarah’s father, Ward, grew to become one of the show’s biggest villains, her siblings, Outer Banks characters Rafe Cameron and Wheezie Cameron, provided contrasting responses of resentment and support.

Throughout Outer Banks seasons 1 and 2, Wheezie is a close confidante for Sarah while at odds with Ward and Rafe. However, the youngest Cameron sibling only appears during two episodes of season 3, with Wheezie being entirely absent from Outer Banks season 4. Wheezie’s absence is generally explained by her leaving town with their stepmother, Rose, after Ward’s death, as Rose doesn’t trust either Rafe or Sarah. But, plenty has already changed with the Cameron family in the wake of Ward’s death, and Wheezie’s return is crucial for wrapping up their story in Outer Banks season 5.

Sarah & Rafe’s Reunion Means Outer Banks Season 5 Needs To Finally Bring Back Wheezie Cameron

The Cameron Family’s Reunion Isn’t Complete Without Wheezie

While Rafe blamed Sarah for Ward’s death in Outer Banks season 3’s ending, he spent much of season 4 working toward a reconciliation with her. Rafe believed that his dad wouldn’t want them fighting or hating each other, and would instead want them to still be a close family unit. It took a while, but Rafe and Sarah were finally able to achieve that later in the season. In one of the show’s most heartbreaking moments, Sarah and Rafe finally confront their resentments and love for each other in Morocco, culminating in a tearful hug between the siblings.

During that argument in Outer Banks’ season 4 finale, Sarah reassures Rafe that she’s not going to betray him like he thinks she will, noting that she’s “all [he’s] got” and Rafe is “the only family” she has left. While this sentiment helps bring the siblings closer as they finally reunite and work together, they’re forgetting a key factor in the Cameron family equation. Wheezie is still alive and loves them, she’s just being kept from them by Rose. In order to truly fulfill Ward’s wish for the Cameron kids to reunite, Wheezie has to be brought back as well.

Sarah’s Pregnancy Makes Wheezie’s Return In Outer Banks Season 5 More Important

Sarah & John B Will Want Her Siblings To Be Involved In The Baby’s Life

Rafe and Sarah being on good terms again is all the more optimistic and relieving given that Sarah discovers she’s pregnant in Outer Banks season 4. With a baby on the way, Sarah and John B will want to latch on to any of the family they have left, which really just boils down to Wheezie and Rafe. Sarah’s dad is dead, her mom is seemingly dead, John B’s dad is dead, he has no siblings, and there’s no indication of what happened to his mom.

Netflix has confirmed that Outer Banks season 5 will be the show’s final season.

While they’ll always have the Pogues as their non-blood family, John B and Sarah will still want their last remaining relatives to be involved in the baby’s life now that the Cameron siblings are making amends. The man who Rafe used to be may not be someone that Sarah and John B would want around their child, but the Camerons are now growing to rebuild their family and foster a safe and supportive relationship. As the baby’s aunt, Wheezie will be an important factor in using Sarah and John B’s familial “village” to raise the child in Outer Banks.
