Alan Ritchson’s hulking military hero is returning to Prime Video in 2025. In front of a packed audience at CCXP on the famous Thunder Stage in São Paulo, Brazil, the actor confirmed that the highly-anticipated third season of his Prime Video-backed series Reacher will hit the streamer on 20 February 2025. The reveal comes a full calendar year after the record-breaking second season of Reacher officially concluded, that instalment serving as Prime Video’s most-viewed release of 2023. Here is everything you need to know about Reacher season three ahead of the blockbuster action series’ premiere.
‘Reacher’ Season 3 Release Date
Prime Video has confirmed the Reacher season three release date as 20 February 2025, with the series to debut episodes weekly from that point. The announcement of the new series release date was made by actor Alan Ritchson, who plays the iconic Jack Reacher role, during the 2024 Comic Con Experience event (CCXP) in São Paulo. Ritchson was joined on stage by recurring cast member Maria Sten and Lee Child, the author of the Reacher novels who also serves as an executive producer.
Production Update
For fans of the Lee Child-penned series, season three has been a long time coming. The upcoming instalment was first confirmed way back in December 2023, just ahead of the second-season premiere. At the time, series star Alan Ritchson made the announcement that filming had commenced via a special video that included a never-before-seen extended look at season two.
Less than a year later, on 9 October 2024, ahead of the third season premiere, Amazon renewed the series for a fourth season. Ritchson has since confirmed that production will begin shooting in 2025.
Reacher is based on Lee Child’s well-loved novel franchise, which comprises a remarkable 28 books, alongside a stellar short story collection. The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios, Skydance Television, and CBS Studios, and is written for television by Emmy-nominated Prison Break writer Nick Santora.
In addition to Santora and Child, Ritchson will serve as an executive producer, along with Don Granger, Scott Sullivan, Mick Betancourt, and David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Matt Thunell for Skydance. Carolyn Harris and Kenny Madrid are the executives-in-charge of the series for Skydance Television.
‘Reacher’ Season 3 Trailer
To coincide with the new announcement, Prime Video also dropped a new Reacher season three trailer, giving fans a first glimpse at the upcoming instalment. In true Reacher fashion, the teaser sees Ritchson belting and bullocking his way through different adversaries before meeting his match in man-mountain Paul Masserella. What We Think ‘Reacher’ Season 3 Will Be Out
In keeping with Prime Video’s previous decision to focus on one major book from Lee Child’s iconic series per season, the upcoming instalment will follow the 2003 novel Persuader as its main source material. The seventh title in the franchise, Persuader drops Reacher into a new skirmish, tasked with taking on vast criminal enterprise in order to rescue an undercover DEA informant. As per the official log-line, Reacher finds himself in a world of secrecy and violence—and “confronts some unfinished business from his own past”.
Prime Video stopped short of providing an in-depth overview of the upcoming season, however, the plot points of Lee Child’s novel does paint an interesting and highly engaging picture. The seventh book in the much-loved series, Persuader chronicles a unique family battle highlighted by a staged kidnapping that goes critically awry. When the target of the attack turns to Reacher, the titular hero must go undercover as a hired bodyguard to infiltrate the inner circle of a vicious drug smuggling cartel.
While not as critically or commercially successful as previous Reacher novels like One Shot or Killing Floor, Persuader is still a highly-revered action release. Seeing Alan Ritchson take on the role as the undercover bodyguard does set up a juicy premise for the new season of the Prime Video action show.
