Twenty seven years since Princess Diana’s tragic death, a royal expert has weighed in on her ‘true feelings’ about Charles and Camilla’s relationship

27 years on since the world tragically lost Princess Diana in a devastating Paris car crash, a royal expert has weighed in on how she had intended to live her life – including her attitude towards her ex-husband King Charles and his wife Camilla. Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared the unexpected insight on the anniversary of her death back on August 31, and revealed how the Princess had felt about her own divorce and what it meant for the future.

“I suspect Diana would have married again if she had lived,” Jennie told OK! “I don’t know who she would have married or where she would be living, but if she had found new happiness, it would have eased the way for Charles and Camilla.

The former BBC royal correspondent then went on to explain what Diana had told her in one of their private conversations: “At the end of her life, she had accepted that Charles and Camilla were very much in love. She told me in one of our private conversations that she understood that his love for Camilla was stronger than any marriage he might have made to anyone else. But she still didn’t see any reason for them to take the extra step of getting married.”

Jennie believes however, that Diana may have been able to accept such a union in the end, if she herself had been able to move on and find love again.

“I think she would have accepted it in the end, especially if she had remarried herself,” she added. “ I suspect she would still be involved in the charity work which she found so very life affirming. And perhaps she would have had more children…she certainly hadn’t ruled that out when we talked about it.”

Charles and Camilla famously tied the knot back in April 2005, eight years on since Diana’s tragic death and just two months after publicly revealing their engagement to the world. They had however, been living together in Clarence House since 2003 before taking the marital plunge.

Jennie believes that Prince William and Prince Harry’s rift could have been resolved had their mother survived (

In addition to Diana’s opinion thawing towards her ex-husband, Jennie also believes that had Diana survived the rift between Prince William and Prince Harry may have been avoided, and would certainly never gave grown “so deep” as to see them cut off virtually all contact with one and other. Jennie also argued that she thought the Princess would’ve “done her best” to support Harry and wife Meghan Markle and their decision to step back from royal life, as she herself had “paved the way for that.”

“If Diana were still here, I doubt if the rift between her sons would ever have got so deep. She would have found a way to make them understand one another and resolve their differences. And that’s another great sadness about the tragedy that led to her death,” she concludes.
