Outer Banks is set to return to Netflix for its highly-anticipated fourth season later this month and fans are already convinced it will be renewed for season 5

Netflix’s hit series Outer Banks is coming back with a twist, splitting the upcoming season into two parts for the first time ever. This October 10, fans of the treasure-hunting drama can dive back into the action.

Co-creator Shannon Burke teases what lies ahead, explaining, “There’s all this action and adventure, but it’s really about the bond between the friends.”

The Pogues’ journey continues in season four as they attempt to carve out a “normal” life in the OBX running their own bait and tackle shop. However, when financial troubles strike, they’re thrust into another perilous quest for treasure.

Netflix has dished out the details: “Before they know it, they’re well in over their heads, with dangerous new enemies hot on their heels, racing them to the treasure.”

And as tensions mount, the Pogues confront their identity and destiny asking themselves pivotal questions who they really are, if their struggles have been worth it, and how far they’re willing to go.

While the future of Outer Banks post-season four remains uncertain, it’s apparent that the creators had a vision of at least five seasons, perhaps intending the show to span two trilogies focused on different characters. Reflecting on the significant time jump that concluded season three, co-creator Josh Pate disclosed to Netflix that the shift was essential: “We felt like we needed to migrate them out of school.

“We think about the first three [seasons] as a trilogy and then we’re starting over on [another sort of] trilogy now.

“We just needed to clear the decks. We’re going to have new villains, a new treasure hunt, a new life situation.”

The decision to renew the series for a fifth season ultimately lies with Netflix, who will evaluate the viewership ratings before making a final call.

Reddit user Same-Connection-8439 speculated about a possible renewal: “The producer said that the first three seasons were its own story and new season four is its own story so we already know we’re getting a total of six seasons, so that means after season four comes out we’ll get a five [and] six. I’m pretty sure.”

Express_Sun_2011 predicted there would be “at least two/three more seasons”, adding: “I also don’t want the show to extend more than that tbh.” [Sic].

Shadow_Raider33 chimed in: “I thought they announced it would be a six season show? I think of 1-3 as one arc, and now they’re opening up another arc that’ll probably take three seasons to finish.”
