The futuristic look is anti-regencycore.
Nicola Coughlin is ditching the regencycore gowns for a head-turning futuristic aesthetic. As the Bridgerton actress stepped out for the 2024 Emmy Awards on Sunday, September 15, she experimented with a bold sci-fi-inspired dress that featured a nod to the divisive peplum trend as well as daring architectural silhouettes.
Coughlin brought intergalactic sartorial vibes to her Emmys red carpet debut in her off-the-shoulder dress, which was covered in reflective shiny silver sequins and jutted out past her shoulders in an exaggerated shape. The shimmering gown hugged her figure with a fitted bodice and flared out into a tulip-inspired peplum skirt, which was layered with a silver, red, and black fitted sequin skirt underneath that trailed past her.
The Derry Girls star kept the rest of her beauty look simple, complementing the scarlet hues of her skirt with matching maroon eyeshadow, a glossy rose lip, and monochromatic blush. In contrast to the voluminous curls she sported as Penelope Featherington, Coughlin paired her metallic gown with a sleek half-updo with a classic middle-parted style. Meanwhile, a pair of white and yellow diamond earrings ensured she was the diamond of the season, or rather, evening.

While her Bridgerton leading man Luke Newton isn’t in attendance, fellow co-star Jonathan Bailey also made a stylish appearance at the annual TV awards show. The Irish actress isn’t nominated for this year’s Emmys (the third season of Bridgerton missed the eligibility deadline for the 2025 show), but she has been confirmed to present at the event—and it’s fitting that she made her Emmy debut in a bold look that’s a 180 from her normal red carpet style.
