Paramount Pictures’ Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning has received a new featurette and set photo, teasing one of the major stunt sequences in the upcoming eighth installment of the hit action franchise. This comes ahead of the movie’s current theatrical release on May 23, 2025.
The behind-the-scenes video provides Mission: Impossible fans with a glimpse at a major underwater sequence, teasing one of the most challenging stunts that Tom Cruise has done for The Final Reckoning. The photo also highlights the next-level training that Cruise has undergone in order to prepare for the said scene. “The training and preparation we put into this film is a culmination of all before it,” Cruise wrote in a post shared on X. “From the depths, to the skies, I can’t wait to share more with you.”
Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hails from franchise director Christopher McQuarrie, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Erik Jendresen, based on Bruce Geller’s classic spy series of the same name. The eighth installment will also feature returning cast members Hayley Atwell as Grace, Ving Rhames as Luther Stickell, Simon Pegg as Benji Dunn, Vanessa Kirby as Alanna, Esai Morales as Gabriel, Pom Klementieff as Paris, Angela Bassett as Erika Sloane, Shea Whigham as Jasper Briggs, Henry Czerny as Eugene Kittridge, Mariela Garriga as Marie, Greg Tarzan Davis as Degas, Frederick Schmidt as Zola, and Charles Parnell. The upcoming sequel will also introduce new characters portrayed by acclaimed actors Holt McCallany, Janet McTeer, Nick Offerman, and Hannah Waddingham.
At the moment, it’s currently unclear if The Final Reckoning will be the last installment of the franchise. However, the first teaser trailer seemingly hinted the upcoming movie would be a culmination of Ethan Hunt’s story. In a previous interview, Atwell opened up about what it was like filming the next sequel in the Arctic, describing it as the “most extraordinary place” she has ever been to. “People thought that it would be impossible, and luckily, Team Mission just came in and totally invalidated that belief system,” Atwell said. “I can say that the main focus was the safety of the cast and the crew, but also the respect of the landscape out there. The territory feels unowned in a way because it’s so majestic and raw.”
Why Mission: Impossible 8 is the Best One
According to Pegg, he is confident that Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning will be the best installment of the franchise, teasing the movie’s next level scope and scale. “I have just finished shooting, I’ve got one day of pick ups to do. I’ve seen some of it. It’s bananas. It’s absolutely bananas,” Pegg said. “What he does in this one, it boggles the mind. I think this one is the best one ever. And I’m not just saying that because it’s like, ‘Oh you’ve got to say it.'”
