Mickey Haller’s legal record – how many cases has he won and lost in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer?

Much is made of Mickey Haller’s reputation as an attorney in The Lincoln Lawyer, but his actual record of wins and losses isn’t immediately obvious. Based on Michael Connelly’s books of the same name, Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer follows defense attorney Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), who chooses to work out of his Lincoln rather than an office. Although Mickey has a pretty clear record of wins and losses in the Lincoln Lawyer books, it’s harder to determine his record in the Netflix series, especially since it skips the first book.

While Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer has established Mickey as an accomplished and respected defense attorney in Los Angeles, the lack of an explicit win/loss record makes it hard to determine how successful he actually is. Luckily, reviewing Mickey’s cases in the Netflix show makes it possible to calculate his success rate in the courtroom — though his losses are a bit muddier.

Mickey Haller Has Won Over 8 Cases In The Lincoln Lawyer

Netflix’s adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer shows only a small fraction of Mickey’s illustrious law career, but the titular “Lincoln Lawyer” has won over eight cases so far. This includes his “not guilty” verdicts, like the high-profile Trevor Elliott case; reduced sentences, like Terrell Coleman; and dismissals, like Mickey obtained for his now-driver Izzy. Considering The Lincoln Lawyer has 15 episodes with the release of season 2, part 1, Mickey’s track record is quite impressive.

Mickey Haller Has Lost 2 Cases In The Lincoln Lawyer

Determining the number of cases that Mickey has lost in Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer is more difficult. Based on the events of The Lincoln Lawyer season 1, it appears its lead suffers two major losses. Most significantly, Mickey loses the Jesus Menendez case, when Glory Days fails to appear in court. He takes this setback incredibly hard. Luckily, Mickey gets to right this wrong, and Jesus is released when his innocence is proven. Mickey’s other major loss is the Eli Wyms case, where Eli took a plea deal.

While season 1’s losses seem clear-cut, The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 complicates Mickey’s loss record. The newest episodes of the Netflix series establish that Mickey has lost every case he’s tried against prosecutor Andrea Freeman. Therefore, it is impossible to nail down all of Mickey’s losses in the series.

Does Mickey Win Lisa Trammell’s Case In The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2? What Happens In The Books

The Lincoln Lawyer Lana Parrilla

Mickey boasts an impressive track record, but it’s hard to say if Lisa Trammel’s trial will add to his wins in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2, part 2. The original Fifth Witnessbook covers Mickey and Lisa’s trial, and Mickey succeeds in obtaining a “not guilty” verdict in the source material. He does so by casting reasonable doubt on his client, offering an alternate theory for Mitchell Bondurant’s murder. This is greatly aided by Alex Grant (called Louis Opparizio in The Fifth Witness) invoking his Fifth Amendment rights during his testimony. However, a later reveal about Mitchell’s murder casts a bittersweet light on Lisa’s verdict.

After getting Lisa a “not guilty” verdict for Lisa, Mickey realizes that she did actually commit the murder. As it turns out, she also killed her husband, Jeff. Although Lisa cannot be tried for Mitchell’s murder again, Mickey takes Lisa down by calling in an anonymous tip to the police. Thanks to this, Lisa is arrested for her husband’s murder. The outcome of The Lincoln Lawyer season 2 allows Mickey to have his cake and eat it too, adding another win to his record while also getting justice.
