Meghan Markle’s tailor said that he was “not surprised” that the row over Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress ended in tears.
Meghan Markle’s tailor opens up about what he really thought of the bridesmaids dress row that made Princess Charlotte cry.
The row, which became the subject of intense drama between Meghan and the Princess of Wales, took place shortly before the 42-year-old married Prince Harry in 2018.
Although he was not present for any of the major tension between Meghan and Kate, luxury suit and dressmaker Ajay Mirpuri said that he was “not surprised” that the row ended up with the then-three-year-old in tears.
Previously speaking to the Daily Mail about the row, Ajay said that he and three others worked around the clock after it was discovered that none of the six bridesmaids’ dressed fitted.
Mr Mirpuri, who has a showroom in London’s West End, said that he can understand “why anybody would be upset” at the disruption just days before the wedding took place in Windsor.
He said: “If anything happened in the background, it didn’t happen in front of me.
“But yes, weddings are stressful at the best of times – and especially one at this high level; you’ve got to respect that. They were faced with a problem like anyone gets at a wedding, with last-minute hitches.
“I can understand why anybody would be upset if the dresses weren’t fitting – it’s nerve-wracking. I feel for them all, because you wouldn’t want the children to go out on a big stage in an ill-fitting dress – and that’s what they were. All six bridesmaids’ dresses had to be fixed, and we did it. I’m a royalist and I wanted to do whatever I could with my small business to serve the Royal Family.”
In his memoir Spare, Prince Harry claimed four days before the wedding, Kate sent Meghan a text about Charlotte crying because her dress was “too big, too long, too baggy”.
Mr Mirpuri also opened up about one thing that he was upset up in regard to the media coverage of the row.
He said that he was disappointed that coverage had focused on the alleged row, and not “the fact that they [the bridesmaids] looked fabulous.”As well as Princess Charlotte, Meghan’s bridesmaids also included Florence van Cutsem, Rylan and Remi Litt, Ivy Mulroney and Zalie Warren.
Prince George, then aged four, also played part as one of Harry’s page boys at the royal wedding.
The bridesmaids dress row was between Meghan Markle and Princess Kate
Less than two years after tying the knot, Meghan and Harry made the decision to step down as senior working royals in January 2020.
Along with their son Archie, Harry and Meghan then moved to the UK to take up residency.
The couple later welcomed their daughter Lilibet in June 2021, and the family of four now reside in California.
