In season four of Emily in Paris, Lucien Laviscount‘s character Alfie was in for quite a whirlwind. After hovering in a limbo state in his relationship with Emily (Lily Collins), the two officially went their separate ways when she rekindled things with her longtime crush, Gabriel (Lucas Bravo). Then, a few episodes later, Emily and Alfie saw each other again, and, in a satisfying turn of events, Alfie revealed he had a girlfriend and turned down drinks with his ex.
And while the moment was quite a fun twist for Alfie stans out there, Laviscount himself isn’t sure where his storyline is going, let alone if the girlfriend was real or fake.
“Or does he have a girlfriend?” Laviscount said when asking about the twist at the Paley Center’s Emily in Paris: The Magic Behind the Scenes event on Sept. 18. “No I don’t know either,” he added. “That’s the thing you don’t know how it’s gonna play out. So is he telling the truth? Is he kinda just putting a little shade, a little curveball?”

On TikTok, fans of the Netflix hit are surprisingly in agreement that Alfie’s new girlfriend could be a ruse after all. “You know it would make sense… in the last scene he did talk with a great love towards her to Gabriel, like he missed her, missed his chance and I was like why are you saying this, you have a gf?!” wrote one commenter.
In the scene, Alfie almost encourages Gabriel to go after Emily after her best friend Mindy (Ashley Park) reveals she’s moving to Rome.
“I thought this though!” another commenter. “Imagine it was that and to save face he just hid at the church until she left 🤣.”

Regardless of whether the girlfriend is real or not, Laviscount already had an actress in mind to play his season five love interest.
“Gosh, Sofía Vergara,” he said, with almost no hesitation. “It would probably look like that,” he said, admitting that he was “just joking.” “I just watched Griselda again so it’s on top of mind,” he explained.
If you ask us, Vergara on the show would make for TV gold. “Oh bring Sofía in as a Spaniard in London and Alfie’s boss!” pitched one commenter. “They have an affair!” We’re totally on board!
