LOTR: The Rings of Power season 2 saw a decline in viewership as compared to its previous edition. However, the reactions have been really positive, with fans and critics praising the sophomore season for its epic storytelling and stunning visuals. The news of the viewership decline worried the fans about the show’s future, but it seems Amazon is ready to move ahead with the series and tell more stories about Middle Earth.
According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has been in development for several months now. However, nothing has been officially confirmed by Amazon and fans are still waiting for the official announcement. But sources tell THR that the studio is happy with how things have turned out to be with season 2 and is really pleased with the rating. Per Prime Video, 40 million viewers tuned in to watch the first three episodes of the series in the first 11 days of their release. That’s one of the reasons why Amazon is committed to ending the series with five seasons and telling the story how they intended it to.
Amazon StudiosThe first season of The Rings of Power laid a strong foundation, while season 2 is building upon that same foundation and taking the story to a whole new level. Thus far, season 2 has been a roaring success and gets better with each passing episode. But there’s no doubt that Amazon would be looking closely at how they can benefit from the series because it took a lot of money to take the rights of JRR Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings. Moreover, it has already been reported that Amazon invested over $1 billion on the five seasons of The Rings of Power. So, it doesn’t come as a shock that Amazon is trying hard to make things work and continue the series without any difficulties. It would be interesting to see when Amazon would come forward with the official confirmation about season 3, but the show will certainly return for another enthralling chapter.
Season 2 of The Rings of Power has mostly been about the forging of rings and Sauron taking control of Eregion. Elves and Dwarves are now learning the ill effects of the rings made by Celebrimbor and Lord Annatar. However, they are not willing to remove the rings. King Durin becomes the first person in Middle Earth to lose his sanity due to the ring’s power, making decisions that could lead his kingdom to ruin. With three more episodes to go, there’s a high possibility that viewers might get a glimpse of the war that is about to begin on Middle Earth. Sauron will show his true colors and come out in the open, announcing his return.
The first five episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are available for streaming on Prime Video.
