Sure, Rabbi Noah is hot, but Joanne’s wardrobe is hotter

What is your fall style inspiration and why is it cool podcast host? Probably because you binged Nobody Wants This and Joanne’s wardrobe is currently living rent free in your head right next to Adam Brody’s beard and toned forearms.

Kristen Bell’s Joanne nails the effortlessly cool Los Angeleno vibe in the Netflix hit, down to her curated stack of gold jewelry, matching pilates sets and that slight bend in her shoulder-grazing, dirty blonde lob (we’d die for a peek into her Net-a-Porter cart). Her closet is a fashion editor fever dream and each episode is a master class in high-low dressing (i.e. teaming a $390 Khaite Bambi belt with a $50 Abercrombie bodysuit).

This is a girl who knows what she likes and has the confidence to show her torso in a Christopher Esber cutout top at her boyfriend’s intramural basketball game. (Seriously, Joanne is doing the MOST for WAG style since Taylor Swift’s Kansas City debut.)

“Joanne for us was a really exciting character to design. She’s a multifaceted woman,” costume designer Negar Ali Kline told Forbes of crafting the wardrobe. “Things that typically wouldn’t make sense, Joanne pulls them off because she has this inherent sense of who she is and how she wants to present the world.”

And if there is one moment in the series that truly encapsulates Joanne’s je nais se quois it’s her Bat Mitzvah-crashing dress. Alongside sister Morgan (played by the hilarious Justine Lupe), Joanne leans in hard to the shiksa label at Miriam’s “Big Apple” Bat Mitzvah wearing a skintight turquoise Alex Perry midi dress (on sale now!) for the finale episode. Morgan, never one to be overshadowed, stands out amid the sea of black gowns thanks to her backless white jumpsuit (take that, Bina!). The whole moment is giving major Romy and Michele energy, which we think was entirely the point.

Not since Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino’s 1997 comedy smash have we had a blonde duo with more confidence and assertiveness. In the purposeful Nobody Wants This scene, Joanne and Morgan storm the dance floor in slow-mo, their hair blowing in the breeze as “Crank That” by Soulja Boy blares in the background. It’s an entrance for the ages that feels tied to the theme of owning your individuality, which Romy and Michele were the poster (and Post-it!) women for.

Dressed in their homemade pink and blue dresses at the high school reunion, the duo commands the banquet hall to the tune of Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time,” wearing the disapproving glances from their peers like a badge of honor.

romy-michelle

2024’s Nobody Wants This certainly honors that same female energy and sisterly bond. Now if only Romy and Michelle had a podcast… (we bet their biggest fear is also a bad face lift).

Nobody Wants This, created by Erin Foster, is out now on Netflix.
