Neve Campbell’s character, Maggie, is leaving The Lincoln Lawyer for season 3, but the door is open for her return in future seasons.
Campbell had a diminished role in season 2, setting up her absence in season 3, which is based on a book that doesn’t feature Maggie.
If the series continues beyond season 3 and adapts more books, Maggie may return and rekindle her romance with Mickey.
The Lincoln Lawyer loses a major character ahead of season 3. Season 2 of Netflix’s legal drama, which was based on Michael Connelly’s novel The Fifth Witness and released in two parts on July 6 and August 3, continues following defense attorney Mickey Haller as he runs his Los Angeles law practice out of his Lincoln Navigator. The show’s cast is led by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo alongside Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Jazz Raycole, Angus Sampson, and Christopher Gorham as an array of Mickey’s ex-wives, colleagues, and clients.
Now, as The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 is renewed by Netflix, the show has also lost a major character for the upcoming season. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Neve Campbell is leaving The Lincoln Lawyer, though the door is still open for her character, Maggie, to return in future seasons. Garcia-Rulfo, Newton, Raycole, Sampson, and Yaya DaCosta are confirmed to be reprising their roles in season 3.
Why Neve Campbell Is Leaving The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3
Best known for her role as Sidney Prescott in the Scream franchise, Campbell was introduced in The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 as Maggie McPherson, Mickey’s first ex-wife and a capable criminal prosecutor. Despite being a series regular in season 1, Campbell had a diminished role in the second. In season 2, episode 6, “Withdrawal,” Maggie accepts a promotion in San Diego and doesn’t appear for the remainder of the season. This seemingly sets up her absence in season 3, which will be based on the fifth book in the series, The Gods of Guilt, which doesn’t feature Maggie.
Though Maggie won’t be appearing in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, the door will remain open for her return. Should Netflix’s series continue beyond season 3 and adapt more books in Connelly’s series, such as The Law of Innocence and Resurrection Walk, Campbell’s character could return as Maggie and rekindle her romance with Mickey. Since Campbell’s exit has now been confirmed, she won’t be seen in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, but Maggie’s story in the show is still far from over.
