Elon Musk may only be the 23rd richest person in the world, but when it comes to real estate, he has top-ten billionaire taste. The Tesla founder recently took to Twitter to announce he’d be selling all his property (a move girlfriend Grimes is reportedly not thrilled about). Now, he’s made good on his word and listed two properties in Bel-Air for sale: one $9.5 million ranch house that previously belonged to Gene Wilder, and one $30 million estate featuring over 16,000 square feet of living space. If Musk is truly determined to sell off all his assets, these two listings will only be the tip of the iceberg. But it’s best for us that he roll these out slowly — we’re already struggling to recover from the eye-popping details of these first two homes.
First, let’s take a look at the (relatively) modest Bel-Air home — which, by the way, belonged to the late Gene Wilder, who famously played Willy Wonka in Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. This 5-bedroom, 4.5-bath ranch house features grand views of the Bel-Air Country Club Golf Course, an oval pool, a separate guest house, and 2,800 square feet of living space.
Musk’s $30 million property is also overlooking the Bel-Air Country Club — guessing this feature is a draw for the tech guru. Set on 1.67 acres of land, this 6-bed, 11-bath home has 16,251 square feet of living space and enough amenities to get lost in for the rest of lockdown (however long that may be). The master bath has not only separate walk-in closets, but separate dual baths. And guests are put up in style, with a 2-room suite dedicated to their stay.
Musk currently shares five sons with ex-wife Justine Musk, and is reportedly expecting another child with girlfriend Grimes. Though Musk clearly doesn’t have the intention of settling in a family home, this would have made a nice one, featuring a full family wing, 2-story library, theater, tennis court, pool, and fruit orchard. And there’s playtime for the adults too: a 5-car motor court no doubt loaded with sports cars, a gym, and a wine cellar are all available.
So, which mansion will be your favorite? Let’s take a look through Musk’s (first) offerings.
Private Knoll
This $30M estate occupies a private bit of land.
Front Yard
It’s a rather regal building, don’t you think?
Fireplace
A perfect place to warm up by the fire…in sunny California.
Antique Finishes
Doesn’t it feel like French royalty lives here?
Dining Room
This estate is fully equipped for entertaining.
Sitting Room
A perfect cozy spot from which to admire the chandelier.
Backyard
This looks more like a private park than someone’s yard.
Tennis Court
You’d have no problem keeping fit in quarantine here.
Pool
The only thing we like better than that pool is the chic tiling surrounding it.
Bedroom
Bedrooms are never just bedrooms; always suites.
Gym
In case tennis isn’t your thing.
Master Suite
The designer memo on this one? All gold everything.
Master Bath
The tech billionaire’s love of gold accents continues.
Kids’ Room
No kid’s room would be complete without a sitting area.
Psychedelic Curtains
We’re tickled by the idea that Musk picked those out himself — somehow, they’re not quite vibing with the rest of the room.
Dining Table
Too casual for formal dining but too formal to eat at the island? Here’s your sweet spot.
Theater
A home theater, with a bar to boot.
Family Room
Like many other rooms, the family rooms benefits from floor-to-ceiling windows and lots of natural light.
Kitchen
A marble island and plentiful storage complete this eat-in kitchen.
Oval Pool
Musk’s $9.5M home features a yard and pool.
Guest Cottage
This Bel-Air home owned by Gene Widler offers guests their own private lodging.
Backyard
A fine lawn and covered walkway to call your own.
