One thing I wasn’t expecting to see when I settled into part two of Emily in Paris season four was the actual French First Lady, Brigitte Macron. But, nothing on this show surprises me anymore, so here we are.

The wife of French president Emmanuel Macron, Brigitte Macron, made a shock cameo on the show in episode seven, when Emily Cooper was in the same restaurant as her. Casual!

What was even more casual about it, was that Brigitte Macron was totally fine with having a conversation with Emily, because she follows her on Instagram. Emily then told her she loves France to which Brigitte replied: “And my country loves you, Emily.” They took a selfie, and then Emily did what she does best: Shared it to Instagram with a cringe hashtag. This time she opted for #FirstLadiesWhoLunch.

Speaking in an interview, Lily Collins has shared exactly how Brigitte Macron ended up getting a cameo in Emily in Paris and how she was to film with.

In an interview ahead of the show dropping, Lily said the inspiration Brigitte Macron being in the show came after she and Emily in Paris creator Darren Star met the First Lady a couple of years ago.

“The idea came to us when Darren Star and I met her at the Élysée Palace in December 2022,” Lily said. “She is a big fan of the show and took the mention of her in season one with great humour. This scene in season four is a wink, and shooting with her was both an honour and a real joy.” Darren Star kept his comments more low key, and simply said that Brigitte has “great talent”.

Of course, Emily in Paris is known for its pretty outlandish outfits, and Netflix has confirmed that didn’t extend to the French First Lady, who wore her own clothes for the scenes.
