2024 has been the year of unexpected celebrity news, with one of the most surprising being how Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, bought a home in Europe.
Many wondered why the sudden home buy, but now, ex-staffers are revealing why Harry and Meghan may have made the surprise move.
According to King Charles’ former personal butler, Grant Harrold told the New York Post that the pair allegedly bought a home in Portugal because life in the US wasn’t “what they thought it would be.”
“But maybe living in the States wasn’t what they thought it would be and that could be why they’re now supposedly edging their way back in the direction of the UK,” he added. “There’s no obvious reason for choosing Portugal as a location to live, but let’s not forget that it’s not unusual for royals to set up overseas.”
Prince Harry, Meghan Markle
He’s not wrong; Princess Eugenie has a home in Portugal as well, which many believe to be the easy way the Sussexes moved in the first place.
For those who need a recap, the Sussexesd reportedly bought a home in CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club, in Lisbon, Portugal, allegedly for a little under $5 million. Their neighbors will be Eugenie and potentially the Clooneys.
Now, it doesn’t seem like they’ll be offloading their Montecito home anytime soon, but it’s true that Harry and Meghan have been hit with many blows after leaving the royal family, between the media circuses and trademark issues for Meghan’s rebranding. However, only time will tell if this will be their primary residence or a second home, which most huge celebrities have.
