Eminem set to produce personal documentary that could be released this year

The new film will reveal a ‘personal journey’ throughout Eminem’s life

Eminem is titled as one of the greatest rappers of all time – a GROAT?

‘The Real Slim Shady’ hit the music scene in the late 90s and was the best-selling music artist in the US of the 00s.

With all sorts of titles and awards to his name for his work, he’s also made the occasional film appearance and starred in 8 Mile in 2002.

The musical drama featured autobiographic elements of Eminem’s life but now, he’s producing a personal documentary himself.

Variety reports that the ‘Without You’ rapper is co-producing a doc with the working title Stans.

And he definitely knows a thing or two about that.

In 2000, Eminem released the track ‘Stan’ and as you’ll probably know, that term is often now used to describe fans who are, well, really, really big fans and supporters of someone.

So that’s exactly what this documentary is about, the super fandom culture.

The hip hop legend is co-producing the project via his Shady Films in association with DIGA Studios and Hill District Media.

With the working title Stans, it’s being directed by Steven Leckart, the writer of What’s My Name: Muhammad Ali and of Legacy: True Story of the L.A. Lakers.

The film is a ‘revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey’ into this wild world of superfandom and will be told ‘through the lens’ of Eminem and his ‘fans that worship him’.

The rapper is sharing the financing for this personal documentary with his manager Paul Rosenberg and 8 Mile producer Stuart Parr.

The pair said: “Stans will be the opportunity for us to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being fans — and in some cases, fanatics.

“This is a study of the relationship between fanbase and artist through the lens of one of Eminem’s most fascinating songs and one of the world’s most important entertainers.”

The documentary is set to be released this year and will initially be distributed by Paramount/MTV.

Former top MTV executive and producer Tony DiSanto said: “Paul Rosenberg and I have known each other since my days on MTV’s ‘TRL,’ a show that was driven by the power of fandom, bringing artists and their fans together.

“So when he told me about the idea for this film, it felt like we had come full circle. ‘Stans’ will explore the complex relationship between fame and super fandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most Iconic artists, Eminem, his music, and, especially, his most extreme fans.”

Well, it might not be new music but this ‘personal’ documentary will be big for Eminem fans – and Stans – this year.
