Netflix’s popular series Emily in Paris has been renewed for a fifth season. Actor Lily Collins, who plays the lead role of Emily in the series, made the announcement on Instagram on Monday, September 16.
“It’s official: EMILY IN PARIS is coming back for Season 5! (sic)” Lily wrote on Instagram, along with a couple of pictures of herself holding a mug with the show’s title on it.
As Lily shared the news, fans of the romantic comedy commented expressing their wish to see the union of Marcello and Emily in the new season. A comment on Lily’s post read, “Please don’t ruin Emily and Marcello’s relationship (sic).” Another fan wrote, “Hopefully she’s staying with Marcello then (sic).” An Instagram user also added, “Please leave Gabriel out of this one (sic).”
Speaking about the new season, the creator of the show, Darren Star, told Netflix’s Tudum, “We’re thrilled with the incredible response to this season of Emily in Paris and excited to return for a fifth to continue Emily’s adventures in Rome and Paris.”
The fourth season of Emily in Paris concluded with Emily finding love in Rome and shifting base from Paris to Rome for work. Dismissing all the rumors about Emily in Paris becoming Emily in Rome, Darren Star clarified, “Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.”
Star also confirmed that Emily’s relationship with Marcello will be explored in Season 5, saying, “I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.”
Star also mentioned that Gabriel will have to face the repercussions of the choices he made for himself in Season 4.
