emily in paris lube

Season four of Emily in Paris DELIVERED. I’m still mourning the insufferably cringey hashtags and selfies which saturated season one, but the love triangle between Alfie, Gabriel and Emily right now is keeping me on my toes. And as always, the show left me with a load of questions: Are the outfits ironic or really just tragic? Am I basically fluent in French now? Is Gabriel single in real life?

But there’s one question in particular from season four which I just cannot stop thinking about – what on earth was the shiny substance that Emily, Sylvie, Mindi and Luc smeared all over their faces and was it actually lube??

An Emily in Paris showrunner, Darren Star, has revealed what was actually used in that scene to create the shiny lube-like skin product and we can all sigh a breath of relief – it wasn’t really lube

Darren explained that the mystery substance wasn’t real lube, but was something “very slick and slimy”. He told Entertainment Weekly: “No, I don’t think it was actually lube. I’m certain it was not that, it was just something very slick and shiny.”

But whilst the slimy substance wasn’t lube, the scene itself was actually shot at a department store which had a whole section of sexual lubricant on sale. Darren said: “That was actually a storyline that went around for a while that we finally got to do, and I thought it was so, so much fun.

“I will tell you though, that we filmed it at Galeries Lafayette, where they actually were selling lube. They had a whole section of sexual lubricant, at Galeries Lafayette, so, there you go. ”

So thankfully, the cast didn’t smear lube all over their faces. But whatever it was didn’t look to be much nicer anyway.
