With at least four other private residences in the Bel Air, Calif., area, billionaire Elon Musk likely won’t miss the sleek midcentury modern he recently put on the market for $4.5 million.
Musk paid $3,695,100 for the home in 2014, and put it partly in the name of his wife at the time, British actress Talulah Riley, and also in the name of her mother, Una, according to Forbes.com. Riley and Musk have since divorced.
The four-bedroom, four-bathroom home was fully updated with high-tech amenities you’d expect to see in a home owned by the Tesla and SpaceX founder. Window shades, lights, music, temperature and security can all be adjusted via one small remote.
Although the house isn’t a mansion — it’s only 3,077 square feet — it is remarkably stylish with cool finishes, including hardwood floors, stone walls, custom wood cabinets and glass tile bathrooms.
The kitchen has been updated with Caesarstone countertops and Wolf and Sub-Zero appliances.
There are also spectacular views from the canyon to the city to the ocean. Multiple floor-to-ceiling windows and sliders take full advantage of those vistas.
Outdoors there are multiple terraces, seating and dining areas, green lawns, as well as a saltwater pool and spa. Tall hedges offer privacy.
With all of his housing options, it’s doubtful Musk spent much time in this particular dwelling. Musk has purchased five other homes in the same area, some more grand this one, some less grand, according to Variety.
Among those he reportedly still owns are a $24.4 million modern spec mansion, a $17 million French chateau–style mansion, the $6.75 million home across the street that was Gene Wilder’s former home and was used as a private school for his employees’ kids and his own five children, as well as a 2,963-square-foot ranch house in the same neighborhood.
There’s also a different home in the same area that he purchased for Riley. The actress sold that one in 2017 for $2,390,000.
Another potential perk for the eventual buyer? The tunnel under LA that Musk and his Boring Company are working on is set to have access nearby — if it’s ever completed. Musk originally planned it to bypass the Interstate 405 gridlock.
