Collin Farrell had a blunt remark when asked about his former co-star’s death-defying stunts in Mission: Impossible.
While many marvel at Tom Cruise’s death-defying stunts, some aren’t as impressed.
The actor is known for being his own stuntman, especially on the set of the Mission: Impossible movies. He’s clung to the side of airplanes, jumped across rooftops, climbed up buildings and even rode a motorcycle off a cliff, with the worst injury he’s ever received being a broken ankle.
Even at the Paris Olympics this year, he made a dramatic entrance in the Closing Ceremony by repelling down the side of the Stade de France. The act symbolized the transition from Paris to Los Angeles for the 2028 Olympic Games.
Fans of the daredevil think the stunts are high risk but high reward. But not everyone can relate to his methods.
Colin Farrell starred alongside Cruise in Minority Report, a 2002 action thriller set in Washington D.C. During filming, he experienced Cruise’s unconventional acting style first hand.
Farrell said of Cruise in a 2016 interview with Yahoo: ““He would be very competitive and very physically engaged.
“I remember him walking on the set and screaming, ‘Are we making an action movie? Then why don’t I hear action?’”
When asked about Cruise’s stunts, his answer hinted that Farrell wouldn’t be hanging off the side of a plane anytime soon.
He said: “Did you see the stunts he did on Mission: Impossible where he’s holding onto the side of the plane? I mean, that’s mental illness. That’s not bravery. I mean, that’s mad.”
There are seven Mission: Impossible films. The most recent, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, was released in 2023. An unnamed eighth film is set to be released in 2025.
