Chris Hemsworth’s response to Thor crying in Deadpool 3 aligns with what fans had speculated about its significance in Secret Wars
Chris Hemsworth finally addresses his crying scene in the recent Marvel blockbuster, Deadpool & Wolverine. However, his answer did not provide anything significant to the Marvel fans except a hint that it will be answered in the upcoming MCU movies. Interestingly, Hemsworth didn’t film the scene and the movie used a stand-in actor for him.
Hemsworth is currently busy with the promotions of his film, Transformers One, which is set to hit US theaters on September 20. However, he will probably return to his role as Thor soon in Avengers: Secret Wars as well as a potential Thor 5. Fans expect to see a relationship between Deadpool and Thor in one of these films.
Chris Hemsworth Answers Why Thor Was Crying In Deadpool & Wolverine
Deadpool & Wolverine was a massive hit for both the MCU and Ryan Reynolds‘ Deadpool franchise, as the film broke records for an R-rated film. While Reynolds’ Deadpool and Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine were at the center of the movie, one scene that intrigued viewers the most involved Chris Hemsworth‘s Thor.
In a scene, Wade Wilson watches Thor crying over a dying version of him on one of the television screens present in the TVA. Fans have since delved deep into the question of why Thor was crying in the scene. While Reynolds teased the scene quite a few times on his social media, Hemsworth has addressed it for the first time.
During the promotion of Transformers One, an interview asked him if he knew why Thor was crying in the scene. The question even intrigued Brian Tyree Henry who appeared alongside the Spiderhead star for the interview. Interestingly, Hemsworth himself had little clue about the scene and shared that fans have to keep following the MCU for answers. He shared (via TikTok):
I’m asking the same question, I don’t know. You’ll have to keep your focus on the Marvel Universe cause there will be an answer. It will be told one day.
After Hemsworth’s answer to the question, fans are convinced that no one at Marvel knew the answer to this particular question except a few. When the Extraction actor’s response was posted on social media, one fan shared that the question would go unanswered in the MCU. Another fan hoped to get the answers by 2027, the year when Secret Wars would come out. Some of the fan reactions read:
Reynolds recently released a BTS image of the scene and fans were surprised to see that Hemsworth never shot the scene with him. It was a stand-in actor who filmed the scene in a CGI suit. Interestingly, Thor’s scene was taken from Thor: The Dark World when he cries after Loki fakes his death.

Ryan Reynolds took to social media to confirm that Thor crying in the film was not included as a gag. He hinted at a deeper significance of the scene, sharing that he knew why Thor was crying. He further added that he couldn’t “unknow” it, heightening the curiosity of Marvel fans. Reynolds shared:
Fans began speculating that the scene indicated the future of Reynolds’ character in the MCU. The fan theory suggests that Wade Wilson might’ve finally found his greater purpose in life and makes a true sacrifice in Avengers: Secret Wars. However, fans are excited at the prospect that Chris Hemsworth and Reynolds could possibly appear together in the film.
Deadpool & Wolverine has grossed over $1.28 billion at the global box office (via Box Office Mojo).
Avengers: Secret Wars will hit theaters on May 7, 2027.
