Bill Gates’ Midcentury Modern Pad in Medina, WA, Lands on the Market for $4.9M

Bill Gates, co-founder and former CEO of Microsoft, is letting go of a home in his vast real estate portfolio.

This time, it’s a relatively modest, four-bedroom, three-bath dwelling in Medina, WA, listed for $4,988,800. The more-than-2,400-square-foot house last changed hands in 2003 for $1,310,000, records show.

Gates is not without a place to live, of course. Medina is also home to his 66,000-square-foot mansion, nicknamed “Xanadu 2.0.” He has owned properties in many other lovely spots, including Hobe Sound, FL; Wellington, FL; and Indian Wells, CA.

As for this house, there’s lots to love—especially for fans of midcentury modern design and lakeside life.

Lake life is a breeze, especially on a deck like this one.

Knockout, 180-degree views of Lake Washington fill the home’s windows. Refined yet a bit rustic, the interior features warm wood, modern beams overhead, and sliding-glass doors for an inviting aesthetic.

Remote blinds offer shade during the day, but most of the west-facing vistas (the Olympic Mountains and the Seattle skyline) are too captivating to ignore. The main bedroom has its own private wing and a luxe bath. Radiant-heat flooring and a double-sided fireplace keep things toasty on cool mornings.

In addition to the deck on the home’s western side, there’s also an east-facing Zen garden for reflective moments. Smart home technology (naturally) and plumbing for a hot tub are among the home’s many enticing extras.

Best of all, the property comes with private beach access.

According to Forbes, Gates is worth about $130 billion—wealth amassed via his success with Microsoft, which he co-founded in 1975 with longtime friend Paul Allen.

Gates is also well known for his charitable efforts through the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, which underwrites global and local health initiatives.
