After a big push, WWE made the Women’s United States Championship official, and they kicked it off right with Chelsea Green winning the belt after a tournament final over Michin. It was a good choice as Green has become one of the more entertaining ladies in WWE with her drive and charisma and already seems fit for this mid-card title. Now the question is, who’s the woman who’s going to beat her for it?
There are some established names, such as Naomi, Bayley, or Bianca Belair. Tiffany Stratton is possible, but she might save her MITB briefcase for a bigger belt. There are a few ladies who can fit this title, not quite ready for the bigger title yet but this mid-card belt is more fitting. These are the five most likely to be the first to beat Green and establish this US title as a big deal for the company.
Lash Legend May Make A Huge Jump
The NXT Star Has History With Green
Legend and Jackson debuted on the October 11 2024 SmackDown
Legend took Jade Cargill’s place in the U.S. title tournament, losing to Niven and Michin
This may seem offbeat even if it’s expected that Legend and her Meta-Four partner, Jakara Jackson, will be called to SmackDown soon. Logically, the pair would be up for the tag titles, but buzz is that WWE is strong on Legend being a big part of the women’s division. So, pushing her as a singles star with the US title would be a great way to prove herself in the company.
There’s also history as Legend and Green clashed in attacks on NXT and SmackDown and some trash-talking on social media. Legend making her official SmackDown debut to challenge Green would be fun and the added thrill of Jackson being a counter to Niven and having Legend start her rise in WWE.
Michin Is The Logical First Opponent
She Could Challenge For The Belt Again
Held the TNA Knockouts title as Jade
She’s bounced back from the horrible Retribution angle
She and Green already have a good feud going
The former Mia Yim did put up a good fight in the tournament final and it’s logical she’s the first big feud Chelsea gets. Michin has been improving in WWE since her return, proving her toughness in the ring and some top matches with Piper Niven and others. She’s also gotten the better of Green in earlier encounters, giving her a push to challenge for the belt.
The feud between them should be good, with Green cheating her way to keep the title for a while before the big blow-off match. Michin is a good fit for this mid-card title and if the feud is good enough, her win can be a nice way to boost the belt up more. She may have come up short before but Michin could still be a US champ soon.
Charlotte Flair Can Add Another Title
WWE Would Love To See Her With Gold Again
Charlotte has been out with a leg injury all of 2024
Ric Flair held the NWA/WCW U.S. title a record six times
Charlotte has already held about every other Women’s title in WWE
Do fans want it? Probably not, but when has that stopped WWE before? Charlotte is set to return in 2025 and most would expect her to get a big push, maybe winning the Royal Rumble again and challenging for one of the bigger belts. However, WWE could also believe that it’d be a better fit for Charlotte to take a step back while still being a force, making it likely she gets either the Women’s U.S. or IC titles.
The U.S. one is the more likely fit, mostly because Ric Flair held it more times than anyone. Having Charlotte once more follow in his footsteps as a U.S. champ is too much for WWE to resist (not to mention the obsession with having Charlotte hold every title there is in the company). Thus, while fans may not be that happy, Charlotte getting another title to her long list of accolades sadly fits.
Jade Cargill Can Get Her First Big Push
The Title Would Be A Fine Way For Jade To Prove Herself
She dominated as AEW TBS Champion
WWE clearly wants Jade to be a star of the future
It could give her a needed heel turn to freshen her up
While there’s speculation Jade really is injured, it also sounds like she’s just taking time off for other projects. Jade’s return should be good, as WWE still has faith in her as a star. Making her the U.S. champ is a good step as rather than thrust her right into the main event, they can see how she handles having a singles title and run with it for a while.
It can also play into the likely inevitable feud with Bianca Belair, letting them fight it out for the belt and Jade better in a heel role. Jade crushing opponents would be a good throwback to how she got over in AEW and prove she can handle WWE as well. It might be a bit before her return yet Jade having a big title in WWE looks to be just a matter of time.
Piper Niven Will Inevitably Turn On Chelsea
It’s Just A Matter Of Time
Their partnership began by chance with Piper taking a tag title when Sony DeVille was injured
The pair have become a good team since
Piper is supportive but clearly wants a title
Let’s face it: It’s inevitable that the Chelsea-Piper partnership will break. It’s been teased a bit and their unlikely friendship has been a boon for both ladies. Yet it’s going to be the classic breakup with the question of who turns on who first. The likely idea is Chelsea dumps Piper, thinking she can stand on her own as a champion to turn Piper face.
There’s also a possibility WWE sees Chelsea’s popularity as a reason to turn her face. So Piper can lay her out in a brutal attack and Chelsea engaging with the fans more is an interesting way to go. Either way, it’s certain that Piper and Chelsea will feud to push both ladies up more and make the U.S. championship a big deal for the women’s division.
