A new character is being added to the mix in Wednesday season 2, and she may be our best chance to solve a big Xavier question from season 1. Percy Hynes White, who played Xavier, won’t return for the upcoming installment, which means his character will be left behind within Wednesday‘s plot. Percisely how season 2 will address this is unclear, and it’s possible that some of our biggest questions about Xavier will be ignored entirely. However, one of Wednesday‘s new characters is perfectly set up to provide some answers.

Wednesday season 2 will release its first part on Netflix on August 6th, 2025, and part 2 will follow on September 3rd. Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday Addams will, naturally, be at the forefront, joined by Emma Myers’ Enid Sinclair at Nevermore Academy. Additionally, scenes at the Addams’ Family Mansion will feature Catherine Zeta-Jones’ Morticia and Luis Guzman’s Gomez, along with Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams. These aren’t the only classic Addams Family characters coming to the screen, however. We will finally get to see Wednesday‘s version of Grandmama, played by Joanna Lumley.

Grandmama’s Introduction Can Reveal Which Of Wednesday’s Grandmothers Was Friends With Xavier’s Godmother

Is Joanna Lumley’s Character The Grandmother Mentioned In Wednesday Season 1

Grandmama Frump has long been a staple of the Addams Family franchise, so it’s only fitting that Wednesday would eventually feature this character. Actor Joanna Lumley should present a fairly unique picture of Grandmama. The Wednesday season 2 trailer reveals she is a bit more sophisticated than the witchy Grandmama from other Addams Family adaptations. This is in fitting with the way one of Wednesday’s grandmothers was described back in Wednesday season 1.

When Wednesday first met Xavier in Wednesday season 1, he revealed that he actually knew her. He said that he and Wednesday had gotten into some trouble at his godmother’s funeral, which Wednesday had attended because her grandmother was friends with the deceased. Xavier said that his godmother and Wednesday’s grandma had spent their younger years in Europe swindling “the ring and notorious,” which certainly sounds like an intriguing story. However, he never specified which of Wednesday’s grandmothers he was talking about.

If this is the case, then perhaps Grandmama can even bring some closure to Xavier’s character, too.

With Lumley joining the cast of Wednesday to play Grandmama Frump in season 2, we could get an answer about whether she was the one Xavier had mentioned. The figure we saw in the trailer certainly seemed to fit the part. She is all glamour and sophistication—certainly someone who would have had some criminal adventures among Europe’s elite. If this is the case, then perhaps Grandmama can even bring some closure to Xavier’s character, too.

This New Wednesday Character Could Know A Thing Or Two About Xavier

It’s clear based on the ending of Wednesday season 1 that Xavier was supposed to be a feature of season 2. Netflix decided to do away with the character following controversy surrounding White, and the series will have to adjust accordingly. However, some of the big mysteries about his character should still, preferably, be addressed. First and foremost is the stalker who contacted Wednesday through the phone Xavier had given her. Does he have something to do with the threats Wednesday received? Then, there is Xavier’s powers, which are quite mysterious on their own. Finally, we would of course like some answers about Xavier’s godmother, who has some connection to the Addamses.

Grandmama could, in a roundabout way, provide answers to these questions and more in Wednesday season 2. She could expand on whether it was she who had been friends with Xavier’s godmother, explain who this woman had been, and provide some insight into Xavier’s family. This could be key in Wednesday’s discovery of who threatened her on the phone at the end of Wednesday’s season 1. Moreover, Grandmama’s place in Wednesday season 2 could be the perfect way to passively explain Xavier’s absence. One way or another, Lumley’s character is sure to be a treat.
