Would Dennis Quaid rather play coach or athlete in a legendary sports movie?
In 2022, Deadline announced that Fear the Walking Dead actress Maggie Grace had been cast in a new horror film, Blackwater Lane. Best known for her role as Shannon Rutherford in the ABC sci-fi drama Lost, Grace will also appear in The Secret Art of Human Flight, released in theaters July 3.
Blackwater Lane is a psychological thriller based on the best-selling book by British author B. A. Paris, The Breakdown. This marks Paris’ first book to be adapted, but according to the author’s site, two other books are being adapted:The Therapist, titled The Circle, and Behind Closed Doors. Blackwater Lane is directed by Jeff Celentano (The Hill) and released on demand and in select theaters on June 21.
Grace stars with Minka Kelly (Euphoria) and Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding) in this thrilling story that follows Cass (Kelly), a woman who after a scary encounter becomes disturbed and begins to see things that may or may not be real. Her husband (Mulroney) believes it is her over active imagination or the medication she is taking. The trailer (below) features someone making a comment that their house could be haunted.
Maggie Grace in The Secret Art of Human Flight
Grace’s next role will be in the fantasy comedy-drama The Secret Art of Human Flight. The film, directed by H.P. Mendoza, who is known for Colma! The Musical, is written by Jesse Orenshein, premiered at the 2023 Tribeca Film Festival and will be released in theaters on July 3.
The film stars Sound of Metal standout Paul Raci with Grace, Grant Rosenmeyer, Lucy DeVito, Nican Robinson, Reina Hardesty, Rosa Arredondo, and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
The film tells of Ben (Gosenmeyer), who, after the sudden loss of his wife, hopes to learn how to fly via a self-help book. Under the advisement of an eccentric spiritual guide (Raci), who could perhaps be a con artist, Ben attempts to turn his life around. As he tries to maneuver through his grief, Ben comes against his worried sister and a detective who suspects Ben killed his wife.
“Writer-director H.P. Mendoza deftly walks the line between absurdity and the seriousness of loss and grief. This endearing story has the perfect dose of melancholy and poignancy with a ton of laughs. Raci, in particular, is a hilarious delight as a guide with a shady past. An altogether delightful, whimsical film and a great tale of grief and healing.”
