The traumatic events of Season 1 finale might change Lucy MacLean for the worse.
In the ruthless and messed up world of Fallout, Lucy MacLean was our silver — golden, even — lining throughout Season 1. Always hopeful, kind, and naive, Lucy was pretty much the only person in the Wasteland who believed in treating people equally and keeping up the good vibes, but even she didn’t last too long like that.
One traumatizing event after another, it all culminated with Lucy mercy-killing her own ghoulified mother after finally learning the truth about her treacherous father. It’s bound to change a person, even as wholesome as her, and not in a positive way.
Season 1 Finale Changed Lucy for Good
Recently, Fallout star Ella Purnell sat down with Nylon to discuss her current projects and of course, the sensational Prime Video post-apocalyptic series had to be addressed. The actress revealed that for her, traumatized Lucy MacLean feels like a more interesting character to play since her tragedy adds a lot of depth to the act.
“That’s what I love about Lucy at the end of Season 1. There’s this girl who’s just always OK even though she’s been through so much, and she’s just not OK anymore. She gives up. She puts one foot in front of the other and she keeps going, but that light’s gone out. That’s a scary place to be. When that person loses hope, the room gets 10 degrees colder,” Purnell shared.
Lucy Might Become a Much Worse Person
Despite the excitement of playing the changed Lucy, the lead actress isn’t sure just how much the Season 1 finale — or the upcoming events and revelations, for that matter — will sink her. Purnell is willing to roll with it either way, though: it’s fun.
“Writers own this arse! I will do anything they write for me. If she turns into a manic serial killer, I’ll just find a way to justify that,” the actress laughed.
We doubt Lucy MacLean will suffer such a major fall from grace so quickly, but we’ve definitely noticed her changes. While she despises her crooked companion, in the end, she mercy-kills her mother — just like the Ghoul did to Roger. She then follows him to chase Hank, and it feels like in the few days Lucy has spent in the Wasteland, she’s come half the way Cooper Howard did back in his time.
