Bridgerton Season 3 fans have taken to social media to slam Netflix for a number of ‘historical inaccuracies’ in the hit period drama.
Bridgerton enthusiasts have been left seething after identifying a plethora of “historical inaccuracies” scattered throughout the third season.
The latest chapter of the racy period drama was recently unveiled on Netflix, and many viewers have taken to social media to highlight the same issue after binge-watching.
Bridgerton has come under fire for featuring acrylic nails and false eyelashes in numerous scenes, while some argue that the actors’ facial fillers lend a distinctly modern appearance.
Nicola Coughlan’s portrayal of Penelope Featherington drew criticism from fans who noticed her hands in one particular scene.
One viewer questioned “why she has acrylics on” after spotting her French tip manicure. One Netflix subscriber humorously suggested: “She’s a time traveller,” while another noted they spotted her nails “immediately”.
Given that the series is set in the early 1800s, long before such cosmetic enhancements were invented, one fan even queried why the production team opted to give her “acrylic nails in the 19th century”.
Penelope wasn’t the only character to face scrutiny, as Francesca Bridgerton, portrayed by Hannah Dodd, also attracted criticism for her noticeably contemporary look.
Many made light of the star’s makeup, with one Netflix viewer scathingly commenting: “Is no-one else peeved by the fact that the females on Bridgerton had glam faces the whole time beat with highlight, contour and eyelashes? Aggravating.”

Other Bridgerton characters also came under fire
A TikTok user suggested that some fans might find Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton character off-putting due to Botox use, later clarifying: “This is a critique of the Bridgerton styling team who [were] generally very heavy handed this season across the board and not a critique of Luke Newton who looks amazing in real life, likely because some of these treatments have worn off.”
Critics argued that Colin Bridgerton “looked so confused” in scenes where he should appear enticing, with another adding: “Dude, he was airbrushed to have no pores too, it was a freaking combo.”
Despite the backlash, many Bridgerton enthusiasts gathered online to support the hair, makeup, and costume department.
They reminded critics that the series “is fiction,” not an accurate portrayal of “real life”, and that viewers aren’t tuning in for “historical accuracy”.
