After giving audiences recent hits like The Boys and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Prime Video has a brand new series that has people talking. Titled Them: The Scare, the production is kicking off what could be an anthology series for the streamer as it’s technically the second season of the show but shares none of the characters as the first. Starring Deborah Ayorinde, who returns to a different role following her run in the breakthrough season, Them: The Scare sits on Rotten Tomatoes with an impressive 100 percent on the Tomatometer.
Them
The eight-episode series, which is available to binge now on Amazon’s streamer, is the second to come from the story started by creator Little Marvin, who developed 2021’s Them: The Covenant. Like fans of Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story are used to, Prime’s latest crowd-pleaser is set up in an anthology-based telling, meaning every season features a different storyline with different characters. Yes, some of the cast members, like Deborah Ayorinde, may be the same but Them: The Scare is a wholly new story.
Bringing Them Closer To Now
Them: The Covenant took place in the early 1950s, and focused on a black family who uproots their life in North Carolina and strikes it out for the big city of Los Angeles, regrowing their roots in a predominantly white neighborhood. Them: The Scare pushes the story nearly 40 years into the future, where audiences meet Ayorinde’s LAPD Homicide Detective Dawn Reeve. While on her mission to track down the killer of a murdered foster mother, Detective Reeve’s life is made that much more complicated when a sinister force clings to her family and won’t let go.
The Covenant Vs. The Scare
Season 3?
Along with Deborah Ayorinde, Them: The Scare also features a call sheet that includes the legendary Pam Grier (Jackie Brown), Luke James (The Chi), and Jeremy Bobb (The Outsider). While the first season of Them struggled to get audiences engaged with the story, it looks like viewers are eating up the supernatural horror aspects of its sophomore return.
Could a third season even be on the way? That mystery, like the one that unravels for Detective Reeve, will only be one that time tells.
Prime Has Been Impressing Everyone Lately
In the meantime, Prime Video is no doubt celebrating another hit on its hands with the freshest batch of episodes in Them: The Scare. The streamer recently dropped Fallout, which was a big hit with fans, and is also the home of other favorites – both new and old – including Fleabag, The Legend of Vox Machina, Invincible, and A League of Their Own.
