Lily Collins as Emily and Eugenio Franceschini as Marcello in Emily in Paris

Part 2 of Emily in Paris season 4 introduced many changes in Emily’s life, including her new relationship with Marcello Muratori, something that can put an end to Emily in Paris’s worst relationship as a consequence at last. From their first meeting in the French Alps to reuniting in Paris via Nico’s polo match, the beginning of Emily and Marcello’s relationship was defined by chance and brief encounters, which rarely gave the two the opportunity to truly get to know each other. This changed massively with Emily’s impromptu trip to Rome in Emily in Paris season 4, part 2’s ending.

In its four seasons, Emily in Paris let Emily have multiple romantic relationships, steadily growing working ones with those from Agence Grateau and the strongest, most supportive friendship with Mindy. However, one of Emily’s key relationships that was always at the center of Emily in Paris has shown its most glaring problems in season 4 when it was actually explored, making it clear that despite being longed for some time, it didn’t suit those who were in it. Marcello’s presence in Emily in Paris and Emily’s life can thus finally end what proved the most damaging relationship in season 4.

Marcello Can Bring The End To Emily & Gabriel’s Relationship For Good

Dating In Emily In Paris Season 4, Part 1 Prove How Gabriel & Emily Don’t Work

The circumstances of their first meeting helped Emily see Marcello in an overly positive light. After all, Marcello helped Emily go down the slope after Gabriel had left her alone to follow Camille, despite knowing Emily didn’t know how to ski. Marcello also proved charming when they met afterward in Paris, which showed Emily the good sides of him at a moment in time when she could only see Gabriel’s negative ones. Indeed, Emily’s last fight with Gabriel, when he shared his feelings and she couldn’t understand him proved yet again the major problems they often encountered in their relationship.

The ease with which Marcello and Emily connected doesn’t cancel out his poor reaction after Emily told him he would have made a mistake by selling his company to JVMA. However, even when he shut her out and only reconnected because his mother asked, Marcello was willing to admit when he was wrong, giving Emily another chance because she asked not to handle the Muratori account, proving she really went to Rome to get to know him. Sylvie’s plans will surely contrast Emily and Marcello’s wishes in Emily in Paris season 5, but at least they faced their problems head-on.

[Emily met Marcello] at a moment in time when she could only see Gabriel’s negative sides after Emily’s last fight with Gabriel proved yet again the major problems they often encountered in their relationship.

The timing of Emily and Marcello’s relationship can thus bring the end of Emily and Gabriel’s tortured relationship, which Emily and Gabriel wanted for so long but couldn’t really make work when they had a shot at it. Indeed, even going beyond Camille’s interference, Gabriel consistently chose Camille over Emily, even when he supposedly only had eyes for Emily. While Gabriel was right in commenting Emily never made a real effort to learn his language and use it to communicate with him, he was rarely open with her, saying she was his girlfriend but putting her consistently last.

Emily In Paris Season 5’s Move To Rome Hints That Emily & Gabriel Are Done For Good

Emily in Paris season 4 strongly established Emily’s connection to Paris. Indeed, despite her lack of commitment to learning French, Emily mindfully chose to set up her life there, building a career she enjoyed and bonds that enriched her. However, Emily in Paris season 4, part 2 also showed Emily’s new way of approaching things. Marcello encouraged Emily not to snap pictures during her trip, instead living in the moment. While she might have struggled at first, Emily chose by herself to leave her phone in her new Roman flat before going out with Marcello, proving her change of attitude.

Emily in Paris’ cast of characters return for season 4 in The City of Light — and things promise to be just as dramatic (and comedic) as ever.

Emily’s inclination to share much of her private life on social media often got her in trouble with Agence Grateau and even sometimes put its clients in trouble. This didn’t stop Emily from doing so. However, Marcello and his family’s influence did, inspiring Emily to live in the moment rather than focusing on narrating an aspect of it to her followers. While everything in his scene with Mindy hinted at Gabriel going to Rome to win Emily back, his grand romantic gesture shouldn’t contrast with Emily’s character development, especially as she intently chose not to put work first for once.

Despite the name of the show putting an emphasis on both Emily and Paris, Emily in Paris season 5 will see Emily in Rome as she handles the Muratori account and tries to convince them to hire Agence Grateau instead of JVMA in the long run.

Why Emily Needs To Move On From Gabriel

Emily and Gabriel undoubtedly had iconic moments throughout Emily in Paris. Still, while their interactions in Emily in Paris seasons 1 and 2 were comical and built up the tension between them, seasons 3 and 4 showed the various reasons why they shouldn’t be together. Emily in Paris season 3 made a point to highlight how Alfie and Emily put in the work, only for Camille, whom Emily in Paris often portrayed as a villain, to blow all their progress up by revealing Emily and Gabriel always and only had eyes for each other at her and Gabriel’s engagement party.

Gabriel’s confession in Emily in Paris season 4, part 2 supposedly revealed his wish to build a life and family with Emily, but he never backed up his words with facts. Indeed, Gabriel didn’t share with Emily the truth about Camille’s pregnancy, and even when he thought Camille was pregnant in season 3, he was willing and happy to marry her. When Gabriel and Emily finally got together in Emily in Paris season 4, part 1, Emily threw away her relationship with Alfie to be with him, while Gabriel behaved like he always did with Camille despite being with Emily.

Considering how troubling actually being with Gabriel was for Emily and how relatively easy was for Emily to fall for Marcello and even see things from his point of view, it would be good for Emily to move on from Gabriel. This wouldn’t necessarily mean that Emily and Gabriel can never be together again, but it would be counterproductive for it to happen in Emily in Paris season 5, making it imperative for them to grow by themselves before considering whether they could still be a fit together in the future.
