Safaree Samuels says he experienced a “dark time” in his life following his breakup with Nicki Minaj.
Samuels joined the We In Miami Podcast, and talked the end of his relationship with rapper Nicki Minaj. He was asked what’s the biggest obstacle he’s had to overcome. He replied, “I was with Nicki, we broke up. So her fans and certain people wanted it to be like, ‘okay, they’re not together anymore… f*** him. Let him be nothing, let him disintegrate, let him disappear.’”
He continued: “I had two of the biggest people in the world against me,” seemingly referring to Minaj and her then boyfriend, Meek Mill. “That made everybody be against me. Nobody wanted to be next to me. Nobody wanted to work with me. It just made everything hard. That was a dark time for me.”
“10 years later, 10-15 TV shows later… I’m still here. Some people don’t like that.”
The clip of Samuels comments were shared to The Shade Room. Erica Mena, who shares two children with Safaree shared her opinion of his comments. “I will FOREVER be embarrassed that I gave sis these incredible beautiful babies,” Mena wrote. “He don’t even talk or care about his seeds this much online or in real life.” Mena then added, “hopefully sis can end his dead beat struggle next,” she wrote.
Fans had mixed reactions to Mena’s comments. “Wasn’t the reference to a “dark time”? So, shouldn’t she be happy he didn’t mention her or the kids? … I’m confused. ATP … she keeps proving him right that she’s the issue..” questioned one commenter. “What’s done is done, girl. Receive those kids as YOUR blessing. Beating on a dead horse won’t turn him into super dad..” stated another.
