Disney and Lucasfilm Confirm that Three 'Star Wars' Movies Are Coming Between 2026 and 2027

Disney’s latest Star Wars project, The Acolyte, was at the center of numerous debates since its release and was, at the same time, both a victim of review-bombing and a project that received a lot of fan support. The fans loved to debate the episodes as they came out, and while a lot of debates had been focused on irrelevant issues, there were those that were related to the canon and, thus, quite relevant.

However, The Acolyte ended after eight episodes, and the fans are now eager for more Star Wars material, particularly as many franchise devotees believe that The Acolyte‘s climactic final episode managed to redeem the show. We know that Skeleton Crew is coming up next – later this year – but Lucasfilm has confirmed that some movies are in the works as well.

After recent reports, Disney and Lucasfilm have confirmed their intention to release a total of three Star Wars movies between 2026 and 2027, and in this article, we are going to help you understand what that means for the future of the franchise.

As stated, the Star Wars franchise is moving forward with new projects now that The Acolyte is over. While fans are hoping for a second season of the show, neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed anything so far, but we do know that several television projects are coming in the near(er) future. At the same time, we know that some new movies are coming and while there are many rumors circulating around the web, Disney and Lucasfilm have officially confirmed only that three movies are coming out between 2026 and 2027.

Their titles have not been confirmed, but we can assume at least two of these three titles. The first one is definitely The Mandalorian & Grogu, a theatrical film that will act as a continuation of the popular series and is arguably the most anticipated of all the upcoming projects. The screenplay is being written by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, with the latter serving as director. Pascal will return in the movie, as well. The film is presently in pre-production with a global release date set for May 22, 2026.

The second movie is most likely the tentatively titled New Jedi Order movie, which is intended to be a follow-up to the Sequel Trilogy’s Episode IX, with a primary focus on Rey founding a new Jedi Order. Returning to her role as Rey is Daisy Ridley, under the direction of Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy from a Steven Knight script. As of the time of writing, the film is in pre-production, but no release date has been set, although we can assume that it is one of the three movies in question.

As far as it is known now, the third movie is either James Mangold’s tentatively titled Dawn of the Jedi project or Dave Filoni’s New Republic film, both of which are in the early stages of production and have no release window, so we will have to wait for a confirmation.
