However, as the season came to its end, the finale left many viewers disappointed, especially when compared to the finale scene from Episode 7.

What Happens in House of the Dragon Season 2 Finale

The House of the Dragon season 2 finale, titled The Queen Who Ever Was, sets the stage for the upcoming civil war, the Dance of the Dragons. The episode delves deep into shifting alliances, military preparations, and critical character developments, all pointing to a major cliffhanger.

But, in reality, it comes as quite a weak finale, which provides no dragon action, if one was anticipating the same, after Episode 7’s big reveal. Running for over an hour, the finale episode did almost no justice to what fans were expecting from the same.

If one would think Daemon Targaryen’s (Matt Smith) visions were enough, hold your breaths as he got a prophetic vision this time, linking the series to Game of Thrones. He sees key events from the future, including a glimpse of Daenerys Targaryen with three newly hatched dragons, which prompts him to vow his loyalty to Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) as the rightful ruler.

Meanwhile, Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) shockingly shows up at Dragonstone, in desperate need of help from Rhaenyra to avoid war and protect her family by offering to sacrifice her son Aegon.

The episode eventually ends with a montage where a blue dragon, Tessarion is spotted flying overhead on their way to King’s Landing. Riding the dragon turns out to be Daeron Targaryen – the missing fourth child of Viserys and Alicent.

While many might be expecting some real dragon action in the finale, it was more of a trailer for the third season, which wouldn’t be arriving anytime soon.

The second season finale turned out to be a major letdown for viewers, which failed to deliver an impactful conclusion to the season’s numerous plotlines. The show’s hallmark – its dragons were majorly missing despite their grandiose entry from their lairs in the Episode 7.

Unlike its penultimate episode which excited fans with a significant time frame with dragons and their riders, the show only did talking instead of action.

Fans took to X to express their disappointment with the finale episode. One user wondered whether the ending showcased was justifiable.

A few pointed out that Episode 7 was much better than the finale, and why not, the episode centers around the claim of dragons by four new characters – Addam, Rhaena, Hugh, and Ulf.

In particular, Hugh Hammer, a lowborn blacksmith, and Ulf, a drunken but ambitious Targaryen b**tard, got engaged in a chaotic dragon scene, which in itself is a thrilling call.

Despite the build-up seen in Episode 7, the finale ended up becoming meaningless, as viewers pointed out, making the anticipating for Season 3 slumber.
