If he clears waivers, he will revert to Denver’s injured reserve list after having an injury designation placed on him.
That would see him sit out the entire 2024 season unless the Broncos reach a settlement.
Perkins was cut to make room for fellow linebacker Alec Mock, 22, in the 90-man roster.
The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Air Force product attended rookie minicamp after going undrafted.
“I had a great time while I was there for spring workouts,’’ Mock said via the Denver Gazette.
“I got to learn a lot. They’ve got great coaches. They have a great staff and honestly, it’s a great organization all around the way they treat players with everything.
“It’s first class. It really is. … I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
Perkins was selected by the Patriots in 2021 but never played a regular season game.
He joined the Broncos as a free agent in 2022 and had 13 tackles in seven games last season.
The Broncos have released their first unofficial depth chart ahead of the preseason clash against the Indianapolis Colts.
Jarrett Stidham was named as the No. 1 quarterback with Zach Wilson next in line and rookie Bo Nix third.
But Sean Payton moved to reassure fans, claiming he put all rookies at the bottom of the chart to save him some time.
Teams are mandated to produce a depth chart before preseason action, and Payton said he was just trying to avoid a long chat with chief communications officer Patrick Smyth.
“Just because it’s easy and then I don’t have to send 40 minutes with Patrick,” Payton explained his decision. “I can spend five.”

“No. I’m not ready for a depth chart, but I have to get a depth chart.
“It’s easy to push the underlined players [rookies] to the back of the line and then make sure it’s kind of where we sit right now.
“That’s really it. No, it’s a good question but I’m not trying to send messages at all.”
Payton also revealed what he wants from his quarterbacks this weekend.
“You want to see your team be efficient and be smart. You want to hit on the things that you’ve been working on relative to scheme and what we’re doing,” he said.
“It’s the first preseason game. The focus obviously will be more internally driven.
“We’ll get on at some point this week. Friday, we’ll turn the page to Indianapolis.
“So we’re still in this training camp [mode]. We’re not working on the Colts right now.
“We’re working just on us, and later in the week we’ll flip the script.
“Ultimately, you want to see clean execution. You want to see the fundamentals we’ve been coaching and then carried over to the field.”
