An actor from The Last of Us still hopes for a cameo in the highly anticipated second season of the HBO series, despite his character’s potential death.
In The Last of Us season 1 of the highly-acclaimed TV series, Josh Brener was seen playing the role of Murray, the fascinating host of the talk show where viewers get to learn about a fungus being as dangerous as a virus. The scene indirectly hinted toward The Last of Us’ global pandemic that would begin in 2003. After that scene, the series jumps forward to 2003 to see how the pandemic began, making viewers believe that Murray is dead. However, Brener still has his hopes high for an appearance in The Last of Us season 2 despite getting a piece of unfortunate news.
While promoting his latest movie Cold Wallet at SXSW, the actor told Deadline that he can make a comeback in The Last of Us season 2 through re-animation. He said, “If everyone can become re-animated, it doesn’t matter how dead his body is!” However, the actor also clarified that series co-creator Craig Mazin has already told his wife that Murray won’t be a part of The Last of Us season 2. Although it might be unfortunate news for fans who want Murray to be a part of the series, the creators’ decision to make another time jump would make his return hard.
For the uninitiated, The Last of Us season 2 will see another time jump. As per several reports, the episodes in the upcoming edition of the HBO series will be set around six decades after the death of Murray. As a result, the only way to bring him back is to use flashback sequences. Production on The Last of Us season 2 has already commenced. HBO renewed the series in January 2023, shortly after the premiere of its first episode, thanks to its immense popularity and critical acclaim. Initially, people were skeptical that the makers would be able to condense the entire first game into nine episodes. However, the series went on to enthrall fans with its epic storytelling, gritty performances, and haunting visuals.
It has been widely reported that The Last of Us season 2 might have only seven episodes. The rumors suggest that the second game’s events might require multiple seasons to adapt. This would be a sensible decision because the second game has a lot of events that can’t be ignored. Also, the third game hasn’t been announced yet, so two seasons would give the creators the time to follow the source material. There’s been a lot of anticipation among the fans for The Last of Us season 2, especially after the gigantic success of the first edition. The show went on to win eight Primetime Emmys, along with several other accolades. There is no official release date for The Last of Us season 2, but rumors indicate that it might premiere in the first half of 2025.
