After learning that Mahomes was ranked fourth on the list behind Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill, Baltimore Ravens Lamar Jackson, and San Francisco 49ers Christian McCaffrey, Schrager went on a rant.

The annual top 100 list is voted on by NFL players every year and happens to be a hot topic across a variety of sports talk shows.

The 2024 list has proved controversial, with reigning Super Bowl MVP Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs not in the top spot.

Schrager sat next to GMFB co-host Kyle Brandt and raged about the rankings.

“What are we talking about here?” questioned Schrager.

“What are we doing, I know the NFL Network is trying to get some clicks, I know the NFL Network is trying to make some ratings here.

“What are we talking about here? Patrick Mahomes is the greatest player in the NFL, he’s been the greatest player in the NFL.

“There’s no reason to even do this list anymore just put Mahomes one I don’t care when it was recorded, when it was done, when it was voted on,” Schrager complained.

Schrager believes the ranking will motivate the three-time Super Bowl champion.

He also shared his shock that Ravens quarterback Jackson, who lost to Mahomes in the playoffs last year ranked above the two-time MVP.

“This is the second time Lamar Jackson has been ranked above Patrick Mahomes, I don’t know why we do this, they [Chiefs] don’t need more motivation,” Schrager said.

Mahomes has previously held the number-one spot in the top 100 players list twice.

The three players ranked above Mahomes had great seasons of their own.

Dolphins wide receiver Hill is not only the first wideout to ever make it to No. 1, but he’s only the third non-quarterback to top the list.

Hill put up impressive numbers in his second season with the Dolphins.

He hit a career-high 1,799 receiving yards and scored 13 touchdowns.

Ravens quarterback Jackson played well last season leading the team to the number one seed and winning his second MVP award.

The 27-year-old completed career highs in completions at 307, completion percentage at 67.2, and passing yards with 3,678.

49ers running back McCaffrey led the NFL in rushing last season with 1,459 yards and scored an eye-popping 21 touchdowns in just 16 games.

Meanwhile, other sports personalities shared their thoughts on the NFL top 100 list on Monday.

Damien Woody who was filling in for Stephen A. Smith on First Take shared his disappointment after learning the rankings.

“We’re talking about a guy in Patrick Mahomes that’s embarking on something that Tom Brady hasn’t done, that the great Joe Montana hasn’t done,” the former offensive lineman said of Mahomes’ pursuit of the first-ever Super Bowl three-peat.

“He’s literally one of one, and we’ve got a running back above Patrick Mahomes? I’m disappointed in the fellas that voted on this.

“The players, come on guys, we’ve got to do better than this.”
