The Walking Dead Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple fanned the flames of hope for Richonne fans worldwide. Despite the departure of Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes, it appears Gimple still has ambitious plans that will see Grimes and Danai Gurira’s fan-favorite Michonne come together in future intertwining stories.
Gimple teased how these plans expand past the small screen, with work still continuing on the trilogy of Walking Dead films that sees Lincoln return to the zombie franchise. Given that Gurira is also exiting the series following Season 10, it is likely that Gimple intends to have her feature in at least one, if not all, of the planned Walking Dead movies. It’s a theory that Gimple gives credence to, admitting that it’s “definitely fair to assume” the two will reunite.
“I mean, I really don’t think so. I just said we were working on the movies, you asked that question, we’ll leave it at that,” he told ComicBook.com. He also stressed how Walking Dead fans need to “pay attention” to the way Michonne left the show, in which she joined a group of migrants, hinting that there is more at play than fans may have initially thought. “There’s something going on there. Yeah, King Bach was there. I’m very grateful to him. We probably haven’t seen the end of him either,” Gimple said. “It was King Bach for a reason. But that was a pretty big group she was with.”
Development and production of the planned trilogy were disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic outbreak. However, Gimple has noted AMC and Universal Pictures are committed to delivering the proposed Walking Dead trilogy. At the time of writing, neither a production start date nor a release date has been announced.
The Walking Dead stars Norman Reedus, Melissa McBride, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews.
