Liam Payne’s death sent shockwaves around the world after the former One Direction star fell from the third floor balcony of his hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina
Liam Payne was “visibly under the influence” after demanding drugs in the hours before his death, a new documentary has claimed.
The One Direction singer is said to have been acting “erratically” before he fell to his death at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A toxicology report found he had traces of “alcohol, cocaine and prescription antidepressants” in his system at his time of death.
Liam met with several people shortly before he died including his friend Rogelio ‘Roger’ Nores and waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz, who has admitted to drinking whiskey and taking cocaine with the star. Both have denied wrongdoing in connection with Liam’s death. Here, we’ve compiled a timeline of Liam’s final hours.

According to court documents obtained by the team behind the documentary TMZ Investigates: Liam Payne: Who’s to Blame?, Liam ordered four bottles of whiskey the night before he died. He’s then alleged to have ordered five more bottles of whiskey at 6.36 a.m. on the day he died.
Braian Nahuel Paiz spoke out in the documentary after being arrested on charges of supplying and facilitating narcotics in connection with Liam’s death. Paiz has strongly denied all of the allegations against him.
The 24-year-old admitted to drinking whiskey and taking cocaine with Liam after meeting the Strip That Down hitmaker while at the restaurant where Paiz worked. “They say I’m the dealer, that I carry drugs, that I sold them and the truth is that no, no I didn’t sell them,” he insisted.
Paiz met Liam for two nights during the singer’s stay in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On the first night, Paiz said there was cocaine but insisted there “wasn’t even a lot of it.”
Paiz added, “The second night too. The soap box and some aluminum foil was already there – drugs scattered everywhere.” He claimed he didn’t accept Liam’s offer of paying for the drugs and alleged the singer even wanted to offer him his $38,000 Rolex watch. However, Paiz said he declined the offer.
Escorts

At around 7.03 a.m. on the day he died, Liam is believed to have sent a text message to his friend Roger saying, “Dude think I’m gonna f— a hooker.” Two escorts showed up to Liam’s room four-and-a-half hours later, according to the TMZ documentary.
Respected Argentinian news website Infobae previously reported that two escorts were promised $6,300 by Liam. However, they didn’t get all of their money.
According to Infobae, the two escorts later told prosecutors that ‘gentleman’ Liam had kneeled in front of them and said, “I love you, I love you.” He is even said to have “promised them” his Rolex watch. But Liam reportedly failed to hand over more cash in the room, or later in the lobby.
Roger is then said to have arrived and attempted to “resolve the situation.” According to the TMZ documentary, the businessman payed the escorts at 3.45 p.m. before leaving the hotel 20 minutes later.
Demanding drugs
Liam is said to have made multiple demands for drugs in the 24 hours before his death. At about 9.30 a.m. the Strip That Down hitmaker is said to have asked his friend Roger if he could “get six grams.”
According to the new TMZ documentary, Roger had breakfast with Liam after 10 a.m. and the maids allegedly found white powder in the room while they were eating. Later that afternoon, Liam told an employee, “I’m gonna need another seven grams for today.”
Documents obtained by the filmmakers alleged Liam had cocaine delivered to him at about 3.30 p.m. One employee then recalled him being “visibly under the influence.”
The receptionist manager at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel recently gave evidence in court about Liam’s final hours. According to local news outlet ViaSzeta, the manager, who wasn’t named and who hasn’t been charged with any crime, alleged Liam asked hotel staff repeatedly to provide him with drugs.
“I understand that he was more active at night, calling reception insistently to ask for alcohol all the time and asking where he could get drugs, more specifically cocaine. I understand that during the night these requests for alcohol and drugs by Payne were a constant occurrence despite the fact that it was very kindly explained to him that the hotel only offered alcohol sales services,” the hotel employee said.
‘Collapsing’ before death
Liam is reported to have been acting “erratically” in the hours before he died. The TMZ documentary claimed he went to the hotel lobby at around 4.26 a.m. with a bottle of whiskey and a laptop. He’s said to have later smashed the laptop before “collapsing”.
The singer was then escorted back to his room. However, at around 4.50 a.m., Liam returned to the lobby. The receptionist manager at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel told the court Liam had also been found “lying on the floor unconscious” inside an elevator just minutes before his death.
They said, “The elevator door opened in reception and I saw Payne inside lying on the floor unconscious.” Along with the hotel bellboy, the reception manager said he tried to get Liam standing up.
“Without saying anything he opened his eyes, regained consciousness, got up, got out of the elevator and sat on one of the stools at the bar that faces the street.” Liam is believed to have fallen again a few seconds later, passing out on the floor. The two hotel employees were helped by an events organizer and one of the hotel masseurs to get Liam to the elevator.
Members of staff waited outside Liam’s room to make sure he didn’t leave. A few minutes after the singer was placed in his room, the hotel staff heard him “breaking everything in there.” The reception manager said it sounded as though Liam was “throwing things or kicking things.”

When Liam failed to stop making loud noises inside his hotel room, the staff returned to the downstairs lobby where the reception manager called 911. “I explained the situation to them, that I was afraid of what could happen to this person because of the state he was in,” the staff member told the court.
They added, “At that moment I saw a police car approach the hotel and one of the sales guys appeared and told me ‘he jumped off the balcony.’ I asked him if he was alive and he replied that he didn’t know.”
The police then arrived and went to the restaurant patio, which is where Liam had fallen. The reception manager called Liam’s friend Roger and told him what happened. “The first thing he told me was ‘I have to tell his family’,” they said.
According to the TMZ documentary, the hotel reception manager made the 911 call at 5.01 a.m. Liam fell to his death just six minutes later, according to a reconstruction of the incident by prosecutors.
Five individuals under investigation in connection with Liam’s death will find out if they will face charges as part of the ongoing criminal investigation early next year, according to Judge Laura Bruniard. Two hotel employees, who recently joined the list of five men under official investigation, are scheduled to be questioned via Zoom this week.

Liam’s waiter Braian has previously addressed the allegations against him as he denied the accusations. During an appearance on Argentinian TV with Guillermo Panizza, he clarified that Liam reached out using a covert Instagram profile.
Paiz explained, “I never supplied Liam with drugs. Liam’s first contact with me was at my place of work. We swapped details and saw each other later that night. It was all normal. He came down from his hotel room to fetch me because I had got lost.”
He added, “We got together there and he showed me some of the music he was going to bring out. I’ve heard people saying he was taking drugs, but the truth is that when he got to the restaurant where I was working he was already under the effects of drugs and he didn’t actually eat anything.”
Liam’s friend Roger also spoke out after news of the charges broke, claiming he never “abandoned” Liam. “I never abandoned Liam. I went to his hotel three times that day and left 40 minutes before this happened,” he said in a statement to Daily Mail. “There were over 15 people at the hotel lobby chatting and joking with him when I left. I could have never imagined something like this would happen.”
He continued, “I’ve given my statement to the prosecutor on October 17 as a witness, and I haven’t spoken to any police officer or prosecutor ever since. I wasn’t Liam’s manager. He was just my very dear friend. I’m really heartbroken with this tragedy, and I’ve been missing my friend every day.” The CasaSur Palermo Hotel is yet to make a statement regarding Liam’s death.
