Eric Kripke Explains Why We Can Expect a Major Team-Up in Season 5 of 'The Boys'

One of the most-watched superhero shows on television, The Boys, concluded its fourth season on July 18, 2024. Though there were mixed reviews for the season at first, the show has been gaining steam and is now Certified Fresh with excellent ratings.

Most of the fascinating and surprising things that happened in the fourth season have already been discussed here on Fiction Horizon, but one important cameo – that of Soldier Boy – still keeps intriguing fans, as the fourth season teased a bigger role for the beloved character in the upcoming final season of The Boys, which is scheduled for a 2026 release.

Now, while talking to the media at the San Diego Comic-Con, which is where the series was revealed in the first place, The Boys showrunner Eric Kripke, who is overseeing The Boys fictional universe, revealed more details about what we can expect from the upcoming final season, as well as what he has in store for us as far as Soldier Boy is concerned.

Soldier Boy has been a popular and fascinating character ever since his debut in The Boys. He had one of the strongest character arcs in the series and was a supe who worked with the Boys against Homelander, even if everything completely changed in the end, and he turned out to be as bad as the current supes. As we’ve already discussed, Kripke and Ackles had both said that Soldier Boy’s story would continue, despite the fact that he seemingly died in Season 3, and this has finally been confirmed in Season 4 of the show.

While talking to the media at the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con, Eric Kripke discussed what the production has in store for Soldier Boy, as well as why they are bringing him back, and here is what he said:

“You know, what we realized was we really hadn’t explored the father-son relationship much between Homelander and Soldier Boy. There’s a lot of material there, how soldier boy feels about Homelander, how Homelander feels about his dad, and so we really wanted to dig into that relationship. (…) Soldier Boy is really driven to kill Butcher after Butcher betrayed him in season 3. So he’s just an excellent antagonist, to switch sides and basically, you know, to be with the supes.”

As you can see, Soldier Boy will definitely have a bigger role in Season 5 and it will be interesting to see what happens to him, especially in light of the fact that an initially unlikely team-up with Homelander now seems more than likely. On top of that, Kripke has confirmed that Soldier Boy will be a series regular in the final season:

“We can announce to everyone at Comic Con: Soldier Boy will be back as a series regular for season 5. He’s back. The motherfucker’s back.”

It seems that we definitely have a lot to be excited about, as far as the final season is concerned.
