The Lincoln Lawyer showrunner teases high stakes and a bigger role for Neve Campbell’s Margaret “Maggie” McPherson in season 4. The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 finale ends with a shocking twist, in which Mickey (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo) is being famed for the murder of his client. This event would send season 4 toward adapting The Law of Innocence, where Mickey will need to defend his innocence while trying to solve a murder. Maggie is Mickey’s ex-wife, who has appeared in 10 episodes so far.
Ted Humphrey told Screen Rant‘s Jordan Williams that Mickey has “the most dangerous job of any attorney in America.” Each season would see the stakes “keep getting higher for him” both emotionally, dramatically, and physically, which means that the stakes are “the highest” in season 4. Additionally, the showrunner revealed that they plan on making Maggie a bigger part of the story they want to tell in season 4 and onward, and they already have a plan. Check out what he said:
I jokingly like to say that Mickey Haller has the most dangerous job of any attorney in America. And you know, the stakes sort of keep getting higher for him in certain ways over the course of the show, both sort of emotionally, dramatically and even physically. We just felt like, what could be better stakes than suddenly Mickey Haller himself facing the peril that some of his clients face? And readers of Michael [Connelly]’s books will sort of be familiar with which book we’re pointing our hat towards when we do that. But it’s safe to say that in season 4, the stakes for Mickey would be the highest they’ve ever been.
[Re: Maggie] I don’t know that the introductory scene was insight into it, but we absolutely do have a way to make Maggie a more prominent character going into season 4. We do know what we’re going to do with season 4 and what story we want to tell. So, we’re just awaiting the word from Netflix on, hopefully, getting a pickup for season 4. Then we will dive right into that.

What This Means For The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
More Thrill, More Complexity
After getting a new job in San Diego, Maggie is no longer deemed a series regular in The Lincoln Lawyer season 3. The show has since introduced a different love interest for Mickey. However, with season 4 moving into the direction of Michael Connelly’s The Law of Innocence, Maggie will again get involved with the plot more actively, which will have a direct and indirect impact on Andy and Mickey’s relationship.

At the end of the book, Mickey and Maggie rekindle their relationship and decide to quarantine together. With the confirmation that Maggie will be working on the show as a regular again, it’s likely that The Lincoln Lawyer will forgo the on-and-off relationship between the two and utilize the opportunity to work things out. With the stakes being the highest when it comes to the plot, the showrunner also seems to indicate that The Lincoln Lawyer season 4’s story will be the most intense and complex one yet.
Our Take On The Lincoln Lawyer Season 4
Bad News For Those Rooting For Andy And Mickey
Maggie’s involvement might mean an end to Andy and Mickey. While Andy is arguably a better fit for the unconventional lawyer, Maggie and Mickey’s relationship has more dramatic potential and a longer history. With Bosch not able to help Mickey during the time of crisis, Maggie could be one of Mickey’s biggest assets.
There is already a Bosch television show starring Titus Welliver that prevents The Lincoln Lawyer from utilizing the character.

It sounds like the creative team behind The Lincoln Lawyer has a plan worked out to make a very enjoyable season 4, adapting events from The Law of Innocence. All they need is a green light from the streamer. With season 3 leaving the show on such a cliffhanger, hopefully Netflix will grant everyone’s wishes to renew The Lincoln Lawyer for more seasons.
