Queen Charlotte, which was released in May 2023, unveils the gripping development of young Charlotte from the moment she traveled from Germany to England to when she tied the knot with King George and all the way through their tumultuous marriage affected by the King’s severe mental illness.
Not falling short in the spinoff are other well-known Bridgerton characters, such as Lady Danbury and Violet Bridgerton, which adds to the thought that another in-depth look at a character would be more than welcome. Lady Bridgerton, in particular, has left quite an impression throughout the seasons and hints at her past have caused overflowing curiosity. Let’s examine why Violet Bridgerton would be the perfect character for a new spinoff show.
From Matchmaker to Romance Seeker
Violet Bridgerton has been known to interfere in her children’s love lives on a, let’s be honest, daily basis. Of course, Daphne, Anthony, and now Colin believed they knew better, but Violet certainly had an eye for the perfect match. She is always seen scheming with Lady Danbury by her side, analyzing her children’s behavior and subconsciously trying to guide them on the right path. In the case of Bridgerton, mother truly knows best.
There is no doubt that following Violet along as she subtly, or sometimes not so subtly, gives her children a little push towards love is a valuable and entertaining part of the show, but Lady Bridgerton deserves a tiny bit more than that, and, thankfully, Season 3 just laid the perfect foundation for it. Introducing the character of Lord Marcus Anderson, who also happens to be Lady Danbury’s estranged brother, a new flame has entered the chaotic whirlwind that is the ton. And oh boy, Lord Anderson knows how to make an entrance and leave an impression.
A spinoff with Violet Bridgerton as the main character and a heavy focus on her future love life would also give the perfect opportunity to turn the tables for once. Instead of highlighting how she knows who her children love before they do themselves, a spinoff could finally allow a closer look at how her children might react to a new lover in their mother’s life. It would be interesting to see whether someone like Anthony, who, in Season 3, doesn’t seem too fond of a man fancying his mother, might change his mind and how Violet’s process of falling in love would be portrayed.
Violet Bridgerton Is a Character With Relatable Depth
To the ton, the Bridgertons have and arguably always will radiate perfection and class (despite some occasional mishaps), enjoying their position as one of the wealthiest families in Mayfair. Violet Bridgerton, the matriarch of the family, ensures their continuous success and flawless behavior. However, it becomes clear that she wasn’t always that confident in this role.
Violet first had to learn to rise to the occasion, when a tragedy changed her family’s life within one second. Still pregnant with her youngest child, Hyacinth, her husband, who was not only the love of her life but also the loving leader within the family, tragically passed away from an allergic reaction after a bee sting. Completely uprooted by the loss of her second half, Violet withdrew herself from her duties as a mother while the oldest son, Anthony, was forced to fill his father’s shoes.
Violet’s reaction to loss is portrayed in an extremely relatable way since anger, disbelief, and despair are all very real emotions attributed to death. Throughout the first two seasons, gut-wrenching flashbacks invite viewers inside Violet’s mind, revealing how she struggled but slowly started to learn how to deal with her loss. Her backstory is filled with unbearable pain but is also a testimony of hope, which might be relatable to many viewers and offer comfort.
Violet’s Garden Is in Bloom in Bridgerton
In Bridgerton as well as in Queen Charlotte, Violet is slowly going through an exciting transformation. While, even after Edmund’s death, she was solely longing for her husband, honoring the time they were blessed to spend together and raising their children with the utmost care, Lady Bridgerton started to dip her foot in new waters again. Realizing that her desires are beginning to shift, she confides in Lady Danbury and reveals that she might be ready to explore a new relationship.
After many years, Violet’s garden is finally in bloom again, ready to be properly nourished. Enticing moments in the third season of Brigderton hint that Lady Bridgerton is certainly attracted to Lord Anderson. Whether it is him eating a biscuit or a subtle movement to help with her glove, the sparks are hard to miss. Marcus swiftly evokes Violet’s youthful side, asking to call on her and flirting in a rather direct but also exciting way. There is a calming ease between them, which could be the perfect foundation for a relationship in the near future, and both parties seem to be ready. Violet has stated more than once that she longs for a partner, and it so happens that Marcus is looking for a wife.
As already stated, Lady Bridgerton had been caught in turmoil in the past, and, keeping the tensions with his sister and his complicated childhood in mind, the same can be said for Lord Anderson. Since Violet and Marcus have a complex and fascinating backstory to untangle, a spinoff would give them the necessary space to explore their lives as individuals and as a couple. With Bridgerton Season 3 already taking Violet’s story to a whole new, potentially spicy level, a spinoff based on Violet’s life would be the only right thing to do. Shonda Rhimes mentioned that she found particular interest in Violet’s story, but only time will tell whether it is enough for a Lady Bridgerton spinoff. Bridgerton is streaming on Netflix.
