Given reports that the upcoming The Walking Dead companion series is set in the early days of the outbreak, there have been persistent questions about which characters from the past, guest stars and one-offs might pop up in the Los Angeles-based spinoff.
The odds are, none of them…but rumors, of course, persist and at the Television Critics Association presentation for FX’s The Americans, actor Noah Emmerich — who played Dr. Jenner of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the Season One finale of The Walking Dead — says that while he hasn’t spoken with anyone at AMC about it, he would be open to reprising the part if the script called for it.
“Sure, I think he’s a fascinating character,” Emmerich told The Hollywood Reporter. “There’s definitely a lot more to find out about Dr. Jenner. I have no idea, I haven’t talked with them about anything. I don’t know [if he could come back]. I have no idea but it’s an interesting question.”
He added, “There’s a lot more there for that character. He was a fascinating character and we only got a little taste of him. It would be really interesting to see what more was there. It’s really intriguing.”
The companion series — with a working title of Cobalt but as-yet-untitled — will begin shooting soon with an eye toward making it on the air during The Walking Dead‘s hiatus next year. Creator Robert Kirkman is co-writing with Sons of Anarchy‘s Dave Erickson, who will serve as showrunner. Adam Davidson directing the pilot. Cliff Curtis, Kim Dickens, Frank Dillane and Alycia Denbnam Carey will star.
