The month-long wait is over and Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2 has arrived on Netflix. It’s the conclusion to the first part of the Colin and Penelope saga, and early indications are that its viewership is about to crush past seasons, which were already some of Netflix’s most-watched shows. It’s on the Stranger Things trajectory, it seems.

You may be wondering if Bridgerton is headed to a season 4 after this, to which the answer is “of course.” This is not a mystery, both in terms of how well the show has performed, but way back in April of 2021, while season 2 was still in production Netflix double-renewed the series for both seasons 3 and 4, something I don’t think I’ve ever seen from the service before.

When Will Bridgerton Season 4 Be Released?

There is a bit of bad news, however. Showrunner Jess Brownell, speaking to THR confirms that there is no easy way to get the wait time down in between shows, and that it’s going to be a two year wait until the next season:

“We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language,” she said. “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up but somewhere in that range.”

This tracks with past seasons:

Season 1 – Released December 25, 2020

Season 2 – Released March 25, 2022
Season 3 – Released May 16, 2024

So, between 1 and 2 was less than two years, but now as things ramp up, it seems that two years is going to be the standard going forward. This often happens with streaming era shows these days given their scale, but it’s a bummer that it takes more time as things press on rather than less.

What Characters Will Bridgerton Season 4 Focus On?

One thing we do not know yet is which Bridgerton characters are going to star in the next season. With Colin and Penelope skipping ahead in book order, there’s no reason it needs to necessarily go back a book to catch up or immediately do the next book in the sequence. They are purposefully keeping this under wraps to keep fans guessing, but once they get past the launch of Part 2 here, I think they’ll probably start talking.

We do have some promising news from Brownell, however.

“I’m really excited about what we’re writing. We’re towards the end with the writers room season, with the scripts. And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”

She goes on to say “one of the ships” will be very happy, indicating that two fan-favorites will get together, whoever they are. In terms of the show being the potentially best season, here’s a comparison point of the others:

 

Queen Charlotte (prequel) – 95% critic score, 73% audience score
Season 1 – 87% critic score, 70% audience score
Season 2 – 77% critic score, 75% audience score
Season 3 – 86% critic score, 83% audience score

 

So far season 3 is the best fan-rated seasons of the series, albeit Part 3 just came out today, and that could go up or down depending on how fans react. Queen Charlotte did the best with critics. Of course, all that really matters to Netflix is viewership, and all seasons of Bridgerton crush those metrics. With so much source material this feels like a Netflix series that could potentially run for a decade. Much more than that, given these two year waits between seasons.
