The Lincoln Lawyer showrunners Ted Humphrey and Dailyn Rodriguez share their thoughts on the future of the show beyond season 3. The second screen adaptation of the Mickey Haller novels by Michael Connelly – following the successful 2011 feature film of the same name starring Matthew McConaughey – The Lincoln Lawyer debuted on Netflix in May 2022 with a 10-episode first season, and in June 2022, the show was renewed for season 2 (also 10 episodes), which premiered in July 2023, before The Lincoln Lawyer season 3 renewal came in August 2023, and will debut on October 17, 2024.
During an interview with TV Insider, Humphrey and Rodriguez discuss their hopes for the future of the show, and how it could run beyond season 3. The duo reveals that the end of the upcoming season could set up a new case to explore in season 4, similar to how the end of season 2 set up the key storyline for the third outing. They also reveal that they already have plans in place to adapt existing novels, with loose plans for seasons 5 & 6 of the show. Check out their comments below:
Rodriguez : We always set up sort of the next case of the season. This one won’t quite set up the next case, but it will definitely set up the next book.
Humphrey : I think we can say this season will definitely propel us in a very exciting and personal way into a Season 4. Michael hints that he’s potentially working on another Lincoln Lawyer book beyond the ones that have already been published. We don’t know that for sure. Obviously, if he is working on one, we are very eager to read it. We have plans internally for how to adapt versions of all the books. If the audience keeps enjoying what we’re doing, then we will keep making the show… we would go for a potential Season 5 and even 6 beyond that.
Could The Lincoln Lawyer Run Beyond Season 3?
There Is Enough Source Material For The Show To Run More Seasons
The success of The Lincoln Lawyer‘s first two seasons bode well for season 3, and a strong showing could result in a season 4 renewal as well. Netflix has a strong track record of renewing shows that have proven successful, and there will be hopes that the series can progress for several more seasons. The good news is that there is plenty of source material left to adapt, as Connelly has penned seven Mickey Haller novels to date, with seasons 1-3 adapting only the second, fourth, and fifth novels.
There are many more storylines and plot points that could be sourced from the remaining novels, and in an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Connelly revealed he is working on another Lincoln Lawyer novel. If viewership figures for the show continue to be strong, there is no reason the show cannot run for at least another three or four years beyond season 3, but this will also depend on the availability and interest of the cast.
These are the cast members expected to return for The Lincoln Lawyer season 3.

Our Verdict On What Future Seasons Of The Lincoln Lawyer Could Explore
Previous Storylines Could Be Visited Again In The Future
Future seasons could take fresh material from other books, but there are past storylines I think could be revisited. For instance, the season 2 finale revelation that Lisa Trammell murdered her ex-husband, and buried him on her property. Cisco’s past with his biker gang could also be touched upon again. Neve Campbell will be absent from The Lincoln Lawyer season 3, as her character does not feature in the novel that is being adapted, but I would expect her to return to continue her character’s story in The Lincoln Lawyer season 4.
