THE WALKING DEAD’s thrilling tenth season is currently awaiting the release of the delayed season finale. Meanwhile, one of the show’s former stars has revealed a surprising confession.
Lori Grimes lasted three seasons on AMC’s post-apocalyptic series The Walking Dead until she tragically died during child birth. Despite her star-making turn, TWD star Sarah Wayne Callies has never seen an episode of the zombie epic. The actress confirmed she won’t be tuning in to the highly anticipated finale when season ten returns after the coronavirus lockdown.
Production on the tenth season’s thrilling finale, A Certain Doom, has been left in limbo following the outbreak of coronavirus.
Although filming of The Walking Dead season ten has been completed, the post-production team are waiting for their safety to be assured so they can return to the editing room.
Before episode 16 is fit for broadcast, one of the show’s biggest former stars has been reminiscing about her time on the first three seasons of TWD.
Way back in the first season, fans were introduced to Lori Grimes (played by Sarah Wayne Callies), the wife of Sheriff Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln).

The Walking Dead: Rick and Lori reunite in season 1
Lori and Rick are reunited, along with their son Carl (Chandler Riggs) when Rick awakens from his coma and luckily stumbles across the small community of survivors.
The pair strike up their relationship again, despite Lori having a brief affair with Rick’s best friend Shane (Jon Bernthal) when she assumed her husband had been killed.
Tragically, Lori dies of blood loss in the season three episode Killer Within whilst giving birth to Judith, born from her brief relationship with Shane.
Despite her death early on in the series, Lori’s role has made a lasting impact on TWD and was pivotal in affecting Rick’s character growth throughout the first nine seasons.

The Walking Dead: The former TWD star admitted the show scared her
However, Sarah Wayne Callies recently revealed this year that she isn’t a fan with the series when she talked exclusively to AssignmentX.
Whilst promoting new NBC drama Council of Dads, Callies admitted: “I never watched The Walking Dead. It scared me.”
During the interview, Callies also touched on her surprising viewpoint about the show’s legacy.
She went on to comment on whether the zombie series dark themes still have a place in today’s modern media environment.
Callies continued: “Ten years ago, the world was different, and that kind of exploration of depravity and desperation and fear was subversive, and it was interesting, and it was new.”
In addition to gory zombie action, the earlier seasons also explore the desperate lengths humanity will go to in order to survive unprecedented circumstances.
Ten years on, the former TWD star isn’t so sure if the themes of the show’s earlier seasons would be quite so impactful compared to current world events.
She added: “And now, we have such a glut of shows about what a s****y, dystopian, f***ed-up world we’re in – including CNN, Fox News and MSNBC, which are reality shows about the s****y, dystopian, f***ed-up world we’re in.”
“I think it’s actually now kind of subversive to say, ‘Maybe we’re all going to be okay. Maybe we can get through this by reaching out to one another.’”
The TV landscape of popular series is still populated by bleak dystopian dramas, such as The Handmaid’s Tale and Snowpiercer.
However, the star’s thoughts could indicate television production in the 2020s could lean towards optimistic new angles in the midst of troubling current events.
