So, it’s no surprise some conversations around Wicked have started to circulate in these groups since its release last month.

Recently, one mom asked fellow parents their thoughts on the movie because her husband is against their daughter seeing it:
For context, the musical is a prequel to The Wizard of Oz, explaining how Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo) became the Wicked Witch, and Glinda (Ariana Grande) became the Good Witch. It is rated PG.

Some moms came forward, sharing similar viewpoints on witches:

One mom even claimed a kid at her church became possessed after seeing Harry Potter:

The question was shared in the Reddit thread r/ShitMomGroupsSay, and people had a lot to say:
NBC
“This is such weirdo stuff. It must be exhausting to go through life being this afraid of everything,” Reddit user u/msangryredhead started in the chat…
“It also isolates the children from their secular peers, meaning it’s easier to push them further into the clutches of religion. Turns out it’s kinda hard to make non-church friends when you’re literally not allowed to participate in the typical bonding activities like talking about the latest SpongeBob episode or playing the latest Pokémon game.”

“I grew up with these kinds of people. I’m still pissed about it. Brainwashing me into thinking everything was satanic. Man, they were wet blankets. No secular music, books, limited TV and movies. They were always telling you what to read, say, watch, and listen to. And they absolutely believed in demon possession… They use religion to bully people in the church they didn’t like. I don’t know why anyone subjects themselves to this crap as an adult.”

“Also imagine believing that your God is so weak and the demons are so powerful that literally watching or reading Harry Potter can lead to demonic possession 😆.”

People also brought up the fact that regardless of witches, the movie is nearly three hours long so younger kids likely won’t be able to sit through it to begin with. “I mean, you probably shouldn’t take a four-year-old to see Wicked anyway, but I’d say it’s pretty unlikely it’ll lead to demon possession,” added u/Anemoni.
“Good lord, I’m exhausted just reading the two pages you posted. I can’t imagine actually believing in it wholeheartedly and living it day and night. It all just seems delusional,” concluded u/lazybutterflywings.
