prophecies Helaena House Dragon

Helaena is a key character in House of the Dragon and the only daughter of Alicent and Viserys, oh and she can also predict the future with eerie prophecies. No big deal or anything. She’s been predicting the future events of House of the Dragon since season one, and she’s got a very high success rate.

Whilst her prophecies don’t always seem the most obvious in the moment, a few episodes later everything tends to come together and it all makes sense. So, let’s have a look at all of the terrifying prophecies of Helaena that have come true so far in House of the Dragon.

Aemond losing his eye

Way before Luke slashed Daemon’s eye, Helaena had already dialled in on that eventually happening to him. It was her first prophecy and boy was it a big one. Whilst Aemond is complaining to Alicent about the fact he hasn’t bonded with a dragon when Aegon, Jace and Luke all have she starts comforting him. She tells him he’ll earn his dragon soon but Helaena whispers that in order to do so “he will have to close an eye.”

Soon after Aemond and Luke get into a fight where he is cut across the face with a knife and as a result, loses his eye. Now that his eye is permanently “closed”, Vhagar accepts him as his rider. On the downside, he only has one eye but he also has one of the largest dragons in all of Westeros, so you win some you lose some.

Predicting the civil war between the Greens and the Blacks

A war between the Greens and Blacks was always fairly inevitable but it was one of the terrifying prophecies Helaena foretold in House of the Dragon. Whilst looking at a spider weave its web on Driftmark she told Aegon: “Hand turns loom; spool of green, spool of black, dragons of flesh, weaving dragons of thread.”

Meleys and Rhaenys disrupting the coronation

Via HBO

Out of everything that could have come from this prophecy, a dragon quite literally coming through the floorboards was not what I expected. Helaena repeats the prophecy twice, warning: “Beware the beast beneath the boards.” Her prediction is proven true when Rhaenys and her dragon Meleys crash through the floorboards during Aegon’s coronation.

Foreseeing the death of her own child

This one has to be the most heartbreaking prediction, as she declares: “I’m afraid … Not of dragons. Of rats.” Just days after her statement Blood and Cheese come to assassinate Aemond but kill her son Jaehaerys instead. As for the relevance of the rats, well boh of them served the Red Keep as ratcatchers before being hired by Daemon.
