EXCLUSIVE: On the heels of The Boys prequel Vought Rising getting a series greenlight by Prime Video, the studio behind The Boys franchise, Sony Pictures Television, has re-upped its overall deal with Paul Grellong. An executive producer on The Boys since Season 3, Grellong is showrunner and executive producer on spinoff Vought Rising, starring The Boys‘ Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash, which he also developed and wrote.
This marks Grellong’s third consecutive overall deal at Sony TV. His partnership with the studio dates back to 2019 when, in only his second stab at TV development, he created The Hill, a drama about media and politics, which sold to NBC. He followed that up with another Sony TV sale a year later, Antarctica to CBS. Both projects were with Josh Berman’s Sony TV-based Osprey Productions.
“We are thrilled Paul will remain at Sony and at the helm of Vought Rising, the prequel chapter to The Boys,” said Lauren Stein, Head of Creative, Sony Pictures Television Studios. “It is gratifying when talented storytellers thrive, and their creative visions are realized, and we are so excited Paul is staying in the Sony family. We can’t wait for fans to see what mayhem he brings to Vought Rising and future projects.”
Grellong was an emerging playwright when he was spotted by then-Law & Order: SVU showrunner Neal Baer. Grellong started his TV career on the NBC procedural and went on to work on Fox’s Terra Nova, NBC’s Revolution and CBS’ Scorpion and Hawaii Five-0. before joining The Boys at the start of Season 3.
“I’m thrilled to continue working with the team at SPTV,” he said. “From the moment I began developing with them, I knew I wanted to put down roots at Sony. It’s an honor to stay in the family and continue what we’ve only just begun. With The Boys prequel Vought Rising up next and our eyes on future projects, I’m eager to keep telling stories together for many years to come.”
Grellong is repped by CAA, The Shuman Company and Schreck Rose Dapello.
